The Ranger became very popular here in Mexico because of the vehicle import regulation established by the Mexican government a few years back. 3rd gen is very popular down here...

If a vehicle had an accident, but it is not totalled, it goes to a government yard where the vehicle is kept until the owner claims it. If after certain time, the owner does not claim it, the government sells those vehicle at auctions, and then you could find them at 'public' junk yards, where you can grab what you are looking for. If the vehicle was totalled, it goes to an insurance company yard, and then they sell those vehicles at auctions as well.

Hmmm That's pretty similar as far as it almost seems like it all ends up in a pick n pull (type) yard eventually. Just different yards, depending on where it came from. Whether it be from the government/insurance company/or auction. etc. Is there really a difference in price depending on which one you go to? P.S. Do you know what pick-n-pull is? Just so you know what I'm talking about.

JYs around here are not very cheap. Last thing I got was a third brake light with cargo lights from a 4th gen, and it cost me like $25... Before that, a mustang dome light, and it was 20 bucks.

I know what you mean by pick-n-pull. I'm close to the Texas border with Mexico (by Laredo, Tx) and I think there's one yard of those there... Around where I live, you can't pick-n-pull stuff, so you have to ask a guy for soemthing and then they look for it... you can lurk around, but there are people watching you don't steal anything.

Ahhhhhhh ok. So it's kinda like a mix of our recycle yards (the ones you walk threw the yards and pull the parts by yourself from whatever car you need then go pay) <---This is our pick n pull style yards.......Mixed with our auto recyclers which are brand specific. I.E. ford recycler, dodge, toyota, etc. (where you go into their building and walk up to the counter and tell them what you need and they go and grab the part for you. (Which in general usually it is always dis assembled right after they get a new car in, so all they do is go grab it if they have the part you need in stock.)

I was planning to lift a crew cab into a car elevator to capture each part of the frame, also to look for spare cabs and beds in the junk yards in the area.. but got really sick this weekend, so I think I´ll have to do it next week.

But in advance here are some pics of the most important spots (cab / bed frame support).

I think you will only need to remove the rear cab support and weld it back a few inches back. About the bed well the mounting is pretty much the same of the extended cab and reg cab, so I think you wont have any problem.

Qty of cross members in the chasis are the same in the back. On the front this Mexican models doesn´t have the front cross member where the tow hooks attach.

Stay tuned for more pics next weekend.

Yeah it looks like only a few inches back really. I made a call to a friend I have who does a lot of south of the border work. He is on the hunt for me. Issue he brought up isnt customs so much as just finding it. Usually these trucks are rebuilt rather than sold off for parts if most of it is still good

seems like all you need is an ex cab frame and the 4 door cab is shaped in the back so it goes up with the frame. get the bed and move mounts seems like a sweet deal

You know whats sad...I will agree with you guys too. I love my ranger but the older compact toyota tacoma's have everything (or most of the stuff we are looking for in our rangers.) lol 4 doors, good sized back seats with leg and head room with the 4 doors. fully loaded if you choose. A factory sunroof, and the trd's come with a push button e locker for the rear, manual transfer case ans a hand e break instead of one on the floor. (which is great for wheeling.) Despite all of that. I am still a ranger lover and always have been! I love my rangers!

I've been working my *** off as well... people are going on vacation and leaving all the work to us. Lol.

I need to go to a junkyard and get a battery hold down (or whatever its name is)... battery had a couple of shorts and I replaced it, but the plastic hold down for the battery broke in pieces (weird, i know), so I had to use some straps to hold it down temporarily... thing is JYs are closed the next couple of weekends, and I can't go on weekdays because of work...

I am from Mexico, so my Ranger was a crewcab from factory, no need to extend or modify it. I sold it a few years ago.

I think there is some thread here of someone who did extend his Ranger, but cannot find it...

I remember that thread. That was Safari Pacific's Truck. He sold it not too long after this thread and build up a land rover. Thread is linked below.
