My New Ride

As yall know, I sold my Ranger about 2 weeks ago. The next day I went and picked up my new ride. It's a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4. Bone stock. Don't worry, I'm already working o that. It has gray leather interior, 3rd row seat, rear air, 4wd,4.0 V6, blah blah blah... Pics:

First mod was The Scan Guage from my Ranger, second was the '064x4 emblem, them in tinted the front windows and the Clarion double-din Radio/CD/DVD player.

The plan for now is to stay relatively stock. Not going to lift it or lower it. I will install my X-cal once I get it reprogrammed. I'm also thinking about a sub or two in the back. Any, let me know what ya think.

Oh and one more of the Ranger.

Not bad Mike. If it were mine, I'd ditch that 3rd row seat and throw 2 15's back there... haha

Nice, the only thing I don't care for is the older 4.0's. They tend to be very noisy, especially when the engine gets hot.

that year has the SOHC in it, i think the OHV stopped in the exploders in 97 or 98.

Yeah, but they're still noisy. I know because my Mom had a 2004 with the 4.0. Look it up, it's a common complaint.

You know how the 4.6's sound in the older F-150's when under a heavy load or moderate to hard acceleration? It is the same noise and is completely normal. With the hot summers we have here it tended to be very noisy once the engine got hot and the fans kicked in.

Not knocking your ride, Mike. They are nice vehicles.

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Explorer/2004/

yeah the 2002-2004 Explorers don't have the best track record.

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Ex...r_window.shtml
That cracked panel under the rear window is EXTREMELY common. I personally see them all the time. Not a big deal if it doesn't bother you.

^^ This is the real problem. 2002 Explorers were the worst but 03-04 has problems to. They EAT TRANSMISSIONS LIKE IT'S THERE JOB. I guess the rear IRS has some issues as well.

http://www.carcomplaints.com/worst_vehicles/
It's the #2 most complained about vehicle on the whole site lol. Next to the 2002 Explorer of course.

Good luck with the new truck!

Meh...not impressed. But as we all know the only opinion that matters is the person who owns it.

I understand where you're coming from with the keeping it stockish thing. Its kinda nice to have a not too heavily modded vehicle to DD. More comfortable, better MPG's, rides smoother, exc.

Definitely not what I expected you to get. Although I really like that body style for the expo's.

Nice man! We have an 03 NBX 4x4 with the 4.6 have put 50k on it in the past 5 years and it has been great! Sucks about the rear hatch I haven't had that issue yet. (knock on wood) I am jealous of the double din I need one for the ranger and the expo. What gears does yours have with the 4.0?

Looks good. Gonna miss your ranger but still a good choice.. Truth be told I almost bought a 06 sport trac instead of my 04 Ranger... Kinda glad I didnt but at the same time seating for friends would be nice... Make sure you stick around and buy yourself at least a fleet ranger as a parts truck. :)
