You JB Welded on a roof rack? I hope you're not actually planning on using it for anything lol.

 

I thought the same thing. For looks, yeah sure. But not function.

I think Ty drilled into his roof to install his roof rack. But he also siliconed the holes inside and out I believe to keep it from leaking.

When I do this, im drilling it.

The JB weld is just a couple spots, the rest is silicone plus ill have more on there once i bead up the edges.

 

yeah we own trucks. so obviously cargo goes in the bed...lol and JB holds at something like 3000lbs per square inch...you find something that can break that and youre the man. lights and wind resistance sure wont so were set. and drilling through your roof is a very very hard thing to do..emotionally

 

I'm glad a pic of the actual roof showed up before I got on here, I was about to have to drive up there...

My issue with JB Weld it is that your only attaching it to the paint...

Other than that anymore up that way, the yards here are pathetic.
I've been looking for something to put on the topper and/or the roof for the Kayak to hook onto, but I have NO problem drilling holes anywhere....

The first time I took a hole saw to a vehicle I was like " screw it, if I f' this up, I'll just get a bigger hole saw"

 

Use JB weld/and our silicone on yours, and then bring me it. I'll rip it right off your roof lol. And besides, the JB weld will mess up the paint anyway so why not just drill the holes?

 

Yeah I have to agree with the JB weld thing. It will ruin the paint so why not just drill. Looks pretty good other then that.

 

because the headliner doesnt sit low enough in relation to the roof. so you would have screws in your head. second idc how well you silicone the holes this is florida the state drenched in rain every day at 3:30 so water would find a way in. and each trac is 37 inches long if I remember right so 37 inches by and inch wide multiplied by 3000 = 100000+ pounds of holding. now obviously its held to the paint...not the most secure...so lets even take 1/25 of that...4000 pounds. sure after a bit you could get it off but what do you want? to put luggage on your roof? lol nah its a light bar folks

 

You can screw it to the roof. Tys 4x4 did it.

 

I would have but i have perfectly nice headliner, if i recall, he doesnt have any or didnt at the time.

 

I'm pretty sure he does. I'm not seeing how this would mess up the headliner at all if you used the correct length screws. Or even just bolting it to the roof with some fender washers to distribut the load would work better.

 

Yeah its pretty much the same as an OHC except from the opposite side. The OHC doesn't go through the roof so this shouldn't go through the headliner.

 

Tyler had a headliner when he did this. He had no problem

 

I'm thinking there is about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch of clearance between the headliner and roof.

You could use some 1/4 - 20 stainless screws that come into the cab from the top and use fender washers on the inside and use a thin locknut . that would keep everything above the headliner. You just have to measure the length and cut the excess if you get it too long.

Marine grade 5200 around the screw holes when you put them in and you will never have to worry about rain.

 

why do you need a roof rack? not like you can put a kayak up there, isnt that why rangers have a bed? As long as you like it...

 

Why did you need 06 tails? You had 01+ ones that worked just fine... Do you really think id put something big up there???

 

I can't wait to see what you are going to do with the wires for these lights that you are going to put up there.

I'll jump on the JB Weld bandwagon, however. heres my suggestion, Bolt heads and Screw heads are flat, Put those on the inside and you'll never see them. you've got 1/8" of foam before you go into the headliner. If you use enough silicone when you put them together, you won't have any leaks, Worked for a factory expo didn't it?

 

yall are correct about the distance of the headliner but the screws were somethig like and inch long. washers would be perfect except the rack would be elevated. no bueno. I would prefer screws but that is too much mod with not enough personal confidence in its seal.

AS FOR LIGHTS: the "rack" bar is hollow aluminum so we'll pop it out, remove the feet, then run wires and seal it all back up. from pictures it doesnt do it justice. its very sturdy surprisingly and I honestly think you could mount somethiing pretty beefy up there.
