Painted the OEM Step Bars!
Painted the OEM Step Bars!
Finally got to work on this now that the weather is ridiculously warm for February. I sanded the bars down with an air grinder and then went back and hand sanded the tough parts with some 180 grit. After that I washed it all off and whiped down the bars with some solvent and let it dry for a day. Next day: I put two coats of Duplicolor Bed Liner stuff on them and let it bake out in the sun for a good 4-5 hrs. Next day I put them back on! Not a hard fix at all, they just really needed to be repainted from all the scratches and crap on them.
It took me 3 days to do it, but that was just b/c I had a lot of crap to do at school this week. However that worked out pretty well so the lacquer thinner/solvent could do its work and the paint had plenty of time to dry too.
No Bars, I kinda like the look, but I had already done all the work to them so I figured I should put them back on lol.

Thanks man!
Haha I have no idea where my granddad got that old pump. I am pretty sure he picked it up at a swap meet in Pigeon Forge, TN. We usually only buy car parts, but he was like dang I gotta have that to put outside the garage! Sucker weighs a ton!

It should for sure, and like I said in the other thread when they do get a little beat up you can just spray some more over top and you'll never tell the difference!
Yeah man, I like that about that stuff!
Haha I totally noticed tonight when I was cleaning the truck that I had missed a good 10" section on the driver side that is about 1" wide where no paint got on it. Dang I was pissed lol. I guess tomorrow I will cover that whole side of the truck and paint that little section and let it sit for a long time.

^ yeah, here's a few close up shots of the ones on the back.
The ones in the back were a PITA to put on. Luckily all the holes that were predrilled on the flares lined up with the stock ones. But after doing that, the top of the flare was sticking a good 1/2" away from the top of the fender. I had to drill two holes at the top of the flare that went through the flare and the fiberglass. Then I got some plastic push pins from Lowe's and cut the head of the push pin in a rectangular shape that looked flush with the flare. Then I simply just pushed the pins in and from then on, I have had zero problems. The push pins themselves are a good 3-4" long in order to get through the flare and into the fiberglass.

Yes they do pop right off. Start at the top of one with along screw driver or something thin to pry with. Then just start to work your way down the step bar. The whole plastic piece is flimsy, but the tabs that hold it on are fragile. Just take you're time and you will have no problems.
But thanks about the wheels! Lots people come up and ask me what they are all the time. None of the trucks around where I live have them, so that makes me happy.
Thanks man!
The ones I have on there are the bushwacker oem style ones. Like I said all the holes on the fender and the flare match up well. But after installing the ones on the back, they stuck out big time on the top. I don't think there is any other kind of fix for that, other than what I did. Or just don't put them on there as other haters have said lol.
Good luck if you find a set to put on your truck!
