Pic Req: Fuel tank skid plates & how they mount

Looking for pics of gas tank skids and how they mount. Post 'em up!

Basically...I've got an 05 skid and mounting it to my '01...and I know that they both mount differently between the years. Need pics!!

Thanks!

Shane

Don't worry about it dude, we can make it fit! Mod it with some superalloys so nothing will pierce the tank and custom mounting brackets, oh yeah dude i got the plan

Thanks Jason. I think that's what's meant for my truck....your style with bracketry attached to the skid.

Here's what I got to work with....came off an '05 Fx4 Level 2. My tcaseskid, axle, andcenter console came from this truck. I think the streaps have studs sticking down that theskid mounts to....something my truck does not have...

I read this thread when it started, and am just now realizing my FX4 has that skid... Mine has studs on the bottom of the tank the skid bolts to. I will get you some pics this afternoon if you still want them.

Yeah Shane you are just missing the brackets. It doesn't actually bolt to the tank straps. In fact the way the skid plate is made you have to drop the drive shaft to get it off. So if you go to the jy trying to get another one remember you have to drop the drive shaft.

Ive found two styles of mounting....one pictured that someone posted for me, and the other kind has studs sticking out hte bottom of the straps.

I went to a Maz Toy yard the other day...found two perfect skids that'll bolt right to my truck that are currently on wrecked b4000's......wanna know the price? $85-95 + a few days waiting time. WTF! screw that! lol.

i have the same truck as u and mine mount just like above not to the tank itself so im not sure that skid is gonna be a direct fit it may take some modding to fit and if i remember correctly the newer trucks have smaller tanks only 16gal not 19 like your truck but i may be wrong on that

Did i say 5 min? I meant 20.

There are four studs that are on the hangars. If you get hangers (assuming they haven't changed the tanks) from an 04-05 FX4, maybe newer? you can make it work.

I ended up using the right skid for my truck....pulled from like a 99 off road. It's the skid with the built in bracketry. Not like ricemans or the pics I posted earlier. I suppose I should update this thread iwth up to date pics. lol.
