Why didn't you just get a tow? That is pretty foolish to drive it with the brake caliper wired out of the way.

I used a standard bolt with washers in an emergency, with loctite.

Thats what happened to mine a couple months ago, but when my caliper got pinned between the rim it cracked it.

Had to replace the brake hose, caliper, rotor, and caliper bracket.

I got the caliper bolts from Lowes, the length is what is hard to get right, I just put a washer on each bolt and loctite, no problems since.

^^ I don't know why they didn't use loctite on the caliper bolts, it seems like every other bolt or nut I need to remove has that damn loctite all over it.

Ever tried to change the starter? that's a lot of fun!

Ford does use a locktite sort of stuff on their bolts, but it's a medium to low strength stuff. Once the bolt comes out for the first time, the locktite stuff is not usable anymore and won't work like it should when the bolt is tightened back down. Add that to vibrations while driving = bolt loosening itself.

thanks guys for the tips

Called autozone they don't sell the bolt Orielly does not either

Lazler has my tow hooks so cant use that bolt ROFL

And I did not have it towed because I knew how far I was from home so we called a tow company and asked how much for a 4 mile tow and it was 125. Being tight on cash we opted for this way sorry if it is stupid, but was the only way to get it home and be able to work on it.

Just to confirm...

Way back at one of the first Centralia meets, same thing happened to Tom Barcia. We did use the bolt from the towhooks, in fact no grinding and he ran it 200 miles or so home to NJ. That was on a 99 or 98, but in a pinch the tow hook bolts work great!
