Yes, when you are in 2wd it disengages. It doesn't loosen up so much though in 4x4 though, the steering stays pretty tight in 4x4.
It can be wired to lock up anytime, and should be; there are those time when just a locked rear is good, I like it locked in 2x, too.
When no torque is applied they are unlocked. In 2wd the front lockers are transparent, or should be. But it 4x4 (at least with an automatic transmission) the steering is quite a bit tighter when moving around at slow speeds because the transmission keeps some pressure (torque) on the drive train. I don't know if my wording makes any sense there or not. lol

Just about finished putting it all back together last night but I've ran into another problem.
The driver side cv axle is too long, seems to me like it's gonna cause it to bind up.
I told the guy at the store it looked different, the overall length is the same but the "cup" that fits into the back of the knuckle and hub was protruding out more than the stock cv. He said it was the only one they had in the computer.
I'm going to take it back off and see what they say.
Anyone ever had that problem with reman cv's?
This is what it should look like, but the one I have is protruding out of the knuckle too much. Best way to explain it until I get some pics. lol

They were the wrong cv's. lol Autozone had the right ones listed as 2002. Not sure what's up with that.
The rain held off long enough so I got everything back together except for the caliper bolts. Still waiting on those from autozone.
