You dont need to come on here and be a dick...i hope someone installed it with red loctite last time...but you probably dont know what that is if you cant remove an oil filter...

Use the three fingered claw with a 1/2" drive ratchet..how do you plan to go to Colorado if you cant afford a $15 oil filter claw?

 

the worst thing you can do is spear it with a screwdriver. are you a caveman? that causes the oil filter to weaken making it harder to remove. if this is your first time changing oil, make sure you lubricate the o-ring and tighten it hand tight (3/4 turn after seated) so you dont have to post on here again

the screw driver was my last option and yes ive changed the oil in several vehicles from chevy to Volkswagen. and none of them have been this stuck.

 

There are alot of smart people on here who know alot of things...dont get started off on the wrong foot with them...they will be your savior...alot of us have been on here for a long time and have a certain amount of respect for eachother...welcome BTW

I sent you a PM. Ive performed Hundreds of oil changes, the claw is your friend. The Key is to keep at it and not stop, don't go to sleep don't give up. Keep at it and get er done.

You had to sell your amp and sub to get the claw?

Did you lube the o-ring and had tighten the new filter?

 

For the effect of it - when I first changed my oil filter after I got my truck several years ago, I had the same problem - and even went as far as having to stab it with a screwdriver as well. For people that say its a 'stupid idea' its in fact some of the only ways to get an oil filter off thats been tightened way too much.. especially if you don't have a room for the Claw thing.

And yes, stabbing through it and using that to give the leverage to take a hand and really crank it backwards worked perfectly.. my dad gave me the hint after I asked if he hand any tricks for getting a stuck oil filter off.

 

well i needed to sell it anyways, it just so happened one of the people in the peanut gallery watching me struggle with it said he would buy it.

and it scored me some more cash for Colorado.

and yes i lubed the gasket and only hand tightened it, i know how to replace them correctly just the previous owner had the strength of the Greek Gods i guess lol

 

hey i'd go with a K&N oild ilter next time, they have a 1" nut on them and even though they coast more they are soo easy to get off its not even funny, i just get my 1" open end wrench and it takes like two second, i love it

*Same thing happened to another guy on a motorcycle forum. He lived down the street so I decided to give him a hand. By the time I got there he had shredded the end of the filter. A pin wrench would have taken it off...but he ended up taking it to a dealer. Haven't seen nor heard from the guy since.

 

Anyone ever see a chain filter wrench ?? Works simular to the band wrench but uses chain. Fits any size filter, will not slip at all. I have 1.

I have had filters on so long that I had to destroy the housing, clean out the guts and use a long chisel and hammer to gently spin the threaded section off so not to scratch filter seal area. I bought the 3 fingered "claw" and was able to park all my filter tools except the take-apart one for Dodge Cummins Diesels.

 

i hope he got it off. he said he was to be in colorado for the beginning of january.

 

what i had to a 5.4 in a e350 was cut the case off then get a piece of flat metal and drill two hole that equal in distance to the oil passage holes in the oil filter base then put two bolts with nuts in the hole to you get a flat piece of metal with two bolts sticking out of it that fit in the oil filter base and twist

good luck it took me 3 days to get this figured out since i had to go to the store the get the metal and not having a vehicle but it worked good luck
