1988 2.3 engine problems
My 1988 Ranger 2.3 engine code A was knocking. Now something has broke and it is really really knocking and smoking. I'm thinking its a broken piston or piston rod. Should I have my dad tear this engine down and rebuild? Or should i look in a wrecking yard for a used engine. If I look in a wrecking yard for a used engine, what years of 2.3's will bolt right in? It's an old truck, that I dont want to spend $1200 on for a new motor. Please give me some advice. My dad is pretty well inclined. If I go to a wrecking yard, what do I look for? My truck is a 1988 with fuel injection.
86 to 88 will fit right in they are all EFI
if you use you're intake, 79 to 85 will fit right in too
i have an 87 that i put a 79 Ford Courier engine in it. everything was the same except the intake which was carbureted.
