1988 2.3L ENGINE PROBLEM
Engine will not rev-up over 500 rpm's after head gasket replaced. All systems working good before rebuild. Gasket blown between cyl. #2&3. Any advice on what I might have messed up. Things to check, would be greatly appreciated. The engine starts easily and idles smoothly. Thanks, Mike.

1988 2.3L ENGINE PROBLEM
Thanks, John93. You were right about the timing. I had turned the crank counter clockwise to set the crank and cam on their TDC marks and ultimately jumped timing. Now I need help again! Truck's been running fine but lately when it gets to about 3500 rpm's it starts looping back to 3000 up to 4000 but won't accelerate higher! Changed the fuel filter ( it needed it) adding some moisture/ water absorber. But the symptoms still persist. John or anyone got an idea as to what to try next? Thanks for the help, Mike.

Hey Bruisebrother you did remove the spout connector before setting timing correct? It sounds like your distributor is out of time and the ecu has maxed out your spark advance to compensate. Easy way to tell when the engine is under load slowly press the peddle to the floor you should hear the engines noise change with your foot.

Go to your local parts house and get a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner NOT carb/throttle body cleaner as this will damage the maf sensor. Spray out the maf and disconnect the battery to reset the codes if the maf code reappears you may need a new maf sensor.
