1998 Ranger 2.5

I am working on a 2.5 liter ranger with a 5 speed.. we just got it home and got pretty cheap so are trying to fix it. It has a bad miss to it and won't get up over 50 mph. I am going to take the plugs out tomorrow and check the firing order on it to be sure that is correct. But I have never seen a 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs before, whats the story behind them and are they descent engines? i am also looking for a engine bay shot of one of these as there is alot of stuff that is laying in the engine bay and we are not sure exactly where it bolts up. Anything that would help me find the problems with this would be awesome Thanks everyone forums are great!!!

The double spark plug helps in a small increase of power and a few other miniscule things. The engine it self is great. They run for a good long while and can take a beating. When I get home I can take a engine bay shot for ya but what exactly do you have "laying" around thats not installed? Its all pretty simple in these engines. Throttle body goes on top of the engine (duh). Agsint the right wall is battery and set back a little is the master brake cylinder and brake booster. The PS pump is going to be to the far right. To the left of that a little is the A/C pump (if you have one, if not the mounting bracket is still there). Further left is the radiator and fan, little more left is the alternator and then aginst the very left is the resevoirs for anti freeze and wind shield fluid. I know that might be a little hard to picture. But Ill get you a picture when I get home.

Thanks alot I did end up finding a parts one that i can get alot of parts off of that I am needing and its not been all hacked up like the one I am working on. I do need help with the timing marks though... I cant seem to find them both... I can see a diamond on the cam pully but everywhere i look seems to say line up the triangle not the diamond.... and for the other pully I cant find a mark on it at all... the crank i know needs to have the keyway straight up... but the others are giving me a problem. Any help would be awesome!!! Thanks for responding....
