2.5l torque converter

Currently putting the transmission back into the truck. I just want to make sure I get things right before I mess anything up. I seated the torque converter as far back as I could, got the tranny lined up and flush with the block and the studs on the torque converter are barely through the flex plate so I can’t put a nut on it to bring it through the rest of the way. Is this correct or does it need to be repositioned? Tranny is not bolted to the engine yet.

If tranny is flush to the engine then all is well, bolt tranny to engine and then slide torque converter forward a bit to bolt it to the flexplate, rotate engine to get at all the nuts

Torque converter should not be tight with trans and engine together, that is correct, should be 1/4" or so of play

So 1/4” of play between the converter and the flex plate or between the torque converter stud and flex plate?

Not sure what you mean, torque converter should not be tightly pressed between engine and trans when engine and trans are bolted together, torque converter bolts tightly to flexplate once engine and trans are bolted together

i.e. after engine and trans are bolted together you should be able to move torque converter in and out a bit

That makes more sense. So I’m at the issue now of the tranny is bolted in but I can’t slide the torque converter forward. Tried wiggling, pulling although I can’t really grab it and doing both while turning the motor.

Most likely is is being held away from flexplate by crank, center of torque converter slides into center of crank

Can you get a nut started?
If so start it and then rotate crank and start the next one, then rotate crank and start the next one, ect.......

Once you have all 4 started then you can start to tighten each one a bit more, it should start to slide in at some point and then you can tighten all 4 up

I’ve given up for the night but tomorrow I’ll see what I can do. I know I’ve tried turning it and I’ve felt each stud but none of them had even just the tiniest bit of thread sticking through. But the motor still turns with the converter slightly in the flex plate.

Is the starter motor on yet?

You may be able to get something in there to pull torque converter forward

Uploading these from my phone. This is a visual of what I’m working with. It’s all the space I have too. I’ve taken it off and put it back on so many times, pulled the converter closer a bit. It will slide back every now and then. From what I’m gathering, it’s just so much weight st this angle that I can’t lift it up from one side and pull it forward. But I could probably slide it back.
