97 2.3 to a 95 2.3 ?'s

Well I am very upset now. I'm replacing the engine in my 97 right now with a 95 2.3 and the wiring is all messed up. I don't have like 4 sensors in the 95 2.3 that the 97 engine had and I'm not sure what to do. Two of the sensors were on the pipe that the thermometer is in (have no clue what they do) and then I have one off the dynamic balancer and one on the oil pump. None of these are on the 95 engine. The one thats on the dynamic balancer has something to do with timing and when to fire the injectors. So anyway, can I do without these? Or should I go to the jk and get a computer and a wiring harness for this engine?

You are probably trying to put a OBDII engine in a non OBDII truck. I'm going to say you have to connect the crank position sensor for you to be able to run the engine. I'm not sure how the 95 engine read its timing.

I'm not sure either. I was trying to figure that out. My dad says that I need to take it back out and get a engine from a 97. But if I go through all that trouble again I might just get like a 302 or 351 and be done with it...or a 4.0, which ever comes first. :D

97 engine is OBD II so that wouldn't help either. If you decide to get the bigger engine, go for the V8. 4.0 is ok but might as well swap in a V8 while you are there.

Yeah, I was going to try to keep the 2.3 for the mpg and soup up the 86..but if I take this one out again..I'm not sure. Thing is is that 4.0's were put in this year Ranger. So I know that I could get it in there with no problem. But the 351 would be nice to drag in! How hard would it be to convert to carborated for the 351?

It would probably be easier since you don't have to deal with much wiring. Cruise the V8 section for more info.
