feels like a hot rod
feels like a hot rod
ok so im having more trouble with my 94 ranger. heres the scoop; i start it up in the morning starts fine but i can smell rich gas, and it idles like a hot rod once i turn it on and off a couple times and it heats up it doesnt want to start very good at all i have to put the peddle to the floor to get it to fire. now this is what i want. all i want is a smooth idle which i dont have, i have replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, and was going to change the pcv but the one they gave me is fitting tight enough.also cleaned the mass air, and got new filter. also cleaned the intake out with carb cleaner, i need help before winter comes guys.
Have you changed the fuel filter? Is there a check engine light on?
It could be a lot of things.
Fuel injectors clogged, bad coil, sticking idle control valve, bad maf sensor, vacum leak, or bad fuel pressure regulator. Did it start doing this all of a sudden or was it gradual?
Any noises?
Which engine?

2.3 4 cyl 5 spd manual. and i boughrt it for 800 bucks cause it wouldnt start because it had been sitting for a year, put new battery and plugs fired right up and has run rough ever since. yes i changed the fuel filter and cleaned the maf, im thinking about buying coils tomorow, you think thats it?
your possibly looking at a bad EGR, I had that problem on my 93... there is a very small hose you need to pull and it will go away... you don't really have to have one, didn't run mine for almost half a year... lol
look for this near your intake manifold, the lil thing on the top connects to a small hose...

*my symptoms were a awful idle like a hotrod and the truck sounded like a old VW beetle and bad fumes out of the exhaust pipe...

basically if your looking at the engine bay from the front of the truck look on the right side of your intake manifold (silver metal thing on top of the engine) and should be a lil silicone hose pull it and then crank her up, if she runs better just find something to clamp that hose with and leave the EGR open, and then order a new EGR...
okso i started it up and took the little tube off no difference really but it wasnt idleing very bad at that point either it needs to get warmed up first is it ok to drive with that unhooked or what.
so you replaced the EGR? I just pulled the tube and plugged it up till I bought one, ran fine for me... IF that DIDNT work I would say a bad fuel filter, located on driver side frame rail under the cab, or something in your ignition is funny... sorry it took a while to find this....
Sounds like my prob right now. Mine has a rough idle and sounds like a hot rod and I can smell gas. It's because my Oxygen Sensors are bad. The Oxygen sensors regulate the amount of fuel sent through the injectors and if they go bad then causes to much fuel to be sent to the engine and causes it to bog, have a rough idle, irregular sounds, and just flat out about flouds it out. So that's what I'm in the process of replacing in mine.
