Ok, in arizona the past few days the rain has been pretty bad. I live out in what some people call the boondocks. So getting home on a normal day is almost like going four wheeling. So when it rained I decided to go play in the mud. Well all went well till I hit a puddle to fast, with a cheap little cone filter and now air box protection my motor stalled and would not turn over....... *oh no hydrolock!!!!* lol.Well I gave the motor a few minuets and tried to turn it over it tried, bit no luck. about 10 min later I try again, it wouldn't turn over for a second, then "crack!" "crank crank crank" it wouldn't start for a minuet, after it started i got our of the running water at about 1500 rpm. I looked at the oil and sure enough, milkshake. I did a compression test. lowest was cylinder 2 at 142ish and the highest was something like 156ish. So that was good. So I drained the oil and ran it. ran perfectly. after burning off all the rest of the water in the tail pipe, no smoke. no water in the oil since. no oil in the radiator. nothing. runs like a dream. so I do not have a problem, I would just like to attest to the reliability and overall strength of the 2.5l. the lima is a great motor. lol

oh god, don't I know it. lol I was so pissed when it happened, with only myself to blame for forgetting its only a 2wd and a little four banger. and needless to say I have the air box back on there.

 

Trust me cause I know from experience. The air box does very little to stop water from going in the intake tube

 

Yeah, I know. But it is safe than a completely exposed generic cone filter. I have just decided to stop riding it so hard because it is a 2.5l. not a 4x4. so to put the snorkel and smoke stack on it would just be plain silly. its a street vehicle, not made for that. but it was fun :D

 

Lol the box can trap water inside and push on the air filter instead of going around the cone filter. The cone would have very low pressure pushing against it from the water unless your real deep

 

I wasn't deep at all. lol just a little splash. and like i said, its a street truck. my problem is i never have enough fun.

 

Well it was a little worse than I initially thought. I let the oil separate...... there was almost a full quart of water that we got out of the oil..... I AM one lucky sob

Next time you go to do a stunt like that bring a spark plug wrench with you pull the plugs THEN turn the engine over water is a bitch to compress you have no idea how lucky you were did you happen to play the lottery the same day? If not try it anyhow your luck might still be there!

 

Water does not compress. I seen a neon bend a rod at the track one day. His cold air intake was in the front bumper and he hit a puddle. Tore the motor down the next day and the rod looked like a cheeto puff. ) < Thats what it looked like.

yeah. I was thinking about pulling the spark plugs but i didn't have my tools XD. my cousin wa busting up a little Suzuki Samurai and put it in a lake. then had his friend tow him out with a winch. He took the spark plugs out turned it over, watched the water show then drove on his way. till he blew out a tire.... then he drove for about five more miles and decided he shouldn't push it anymore. so yeah. Have done a bit to the truck since. she is looking a bit more like a road queen. doesn't see to much mud anymore.
