QUestion about the 2.3L

Alright so heres the deal. Are there any difference in the 2.3L starting with the dual plug? Cause this new head i got seems to have different mounting bracket holes. and it seems m other valve cover gasket wont work and when i started the truck, it spit oil right behind the cam gear throwing oil everywhere. Just wandering if there was a difference throughout the years of the 2.3L in the valve cover region? Or would it be cause i didnt put teflon on the cam gear bolt?

Your missing the cam seal. Look at my engine its an 87 but should be the same. Also put some teflon tape on the cam bolt or you will still leak oil. But look on the bright side you now know with out a doubt your oil pump works!

Yeah, I figured it out. But it's running rough now. I unPlugged the mass air and it runs smoother.

Try some mass air flow sensor cleaner NOT carb cleaner.

Well heres the thing. I got all that squared away, and its still running rough as hell. And when you unplug the mass air it runs alot smoother. I cleaned the maf, put a new fuel filter on it. Im just really confused on why its doing this..

Heres a video.

Is the check engine light on? Check the ignition coil for cracks, The crank sensor for excess build up. Also start the truck at night and watch the plug wires see if you have spark going everywhere.
Rent a fuel pressure tester you should have between 30 to 40 PSI while running. Check all of this out and let me know what you find!

Well I can already tell you that I checked the fuel pressure. And it was at 40psi. But yes, the check engine is on when the mass air is unplugged. And I'll have to wait till tomorrow night to see if it's sparking anywhere. It is also acting different now. I'll get a video of it Tomo so ya can see. Also, when ya push the clutch in, it starts to rev really high. That just cause the idle screw or what?

Make sure you don't have a vac leak between the intake and the maf sensor. That will cause the problems your having. And are you sure you don't have a vac leak like a line still unplugged.

The Maf and intake are separate. I ran a smoke machine to see if any leaks were there, and no smoke came out..
