soft brakes and abs light

soft brakes and abs light

over the last year my brakes have gotten soft twice. the brake and abs lights also came on. i put in some fluid and prob solved. it just happened again but the brakes are still soft and the lights are still on. any ideas. 2000 Ranger

Sounds like you are leaking fluid somewhere. Check the inside of the tires for the telltale drip stains, especially on the rear wheels. This happened to me for a while, and then one day the wheel cylinder completely failed. Maybe someone will chime in with some other ideas....

pump your brakes then look all around and behind each wheel for fluid then follow your brake lines from the wheel to the master cylinder

Yep... check the lines front to back and everything related to the brakes! My dad's '00 started to leak at the rear hose where there was something rubbing against it.
