what exhaust sounds good

what exhaust sounds good on a 4Cyl 97 ranger with 2.3L I am looking for a muffler that will give a deep solid tone instead of the common ricer sound. I have a 6Cyl 3.0L and I put 2.3in catback with 40 series flowmaster (gives nice solid sound at idle and sounds mean when you get on it) but am not sure if it will work as well on a 4Cyl any advice is helpful

I don't think any muffler on the 4 cyl will not sound ricer in the higher RPMs. A few members use the flowmasters on the 4 cyl and like them.

On my old '88 2.3 Ive got a Flowmaster Original 40 w/ a single 2 1/2" out series, its quiet - has a really clean idle, doesn't drone at all - and doesn't sound ricer when you let on the gas in the least.

I've got a 93 with the 4 cylinder, I removed the cat along with the stock exhaust, and replaced it with a cherrybom glasspack and 3 inch turn down, I love the sound, very deep.

did ya leave the header pipe (from manifold to cat conv.) on it with the oxy sensor? My conv. an muffler on my 94 5 spd is in bad need of replacement.

Thanx, Ronnie

I have a 1 in / 2 out flowmaster on my 99 2.5l running to2 (2 1/2 inch) duals out back. Sounds good as long as you dont try to red line every gear. Then it sounds like a ricer from what people tell me.

jsut remember, almost any muffler on a 2.3 will sound "ricey" at high RPM's.. it sjust the natural drone of the engine and exhaust manifold :-)

I have the Flowmaster Super 40 on my 2.3L 1993 XLT, and it sounds incredible at idle and while driving.

Very throaty sound. Others will ask me if I am driving a V6 and tell them its just a little 4 banger with the Flowmaster on there.

Put a FM 40 on my 94 2.3 yesterday, removed leakyplugged cat an now it runs 100% better. They don't ck for cats down here in the Mo. Ozarks anyway......

Sounds great, runs great, gas mileage better now, ck eng lite is even off now..... Best bux I have spent in a lot of years, an I've had 60 of'em to spend it....hahahaha

I put a little cherry bomb "turbo" on my truck. it doesn't sound bad. not to much likea ricer at all, until you get about 4700 - 5400 revs. But even then I really wouldn't compare the two.
