How long have you been dealing with this? You can try this little trick: #1 ensure you have your oil filled to the correct level being under or over can cause this. #2 get some sea foam or marvel mystery oil (or both) and add a quart to your oil. #3 with the oil treatment in drive at high rpm for a few hours. If that doesn’t work, pull the valve cover, make sure springs and retainers are in good shape, hose the spring and valve stem with a good penetrating oil, and lightly tap with a hammer.
As a last resort you can add a quart or transmission fluid to your oil idle for a while take a very short drive, and immediately change your oil, maybe change again after a few days. Bad for seals but works rather well.

thanks for the quick reply. Ive been hearing it over the course of the past winter and the last oil change i did was in december 4 quarts of 10w30 and one quart of lucas i was wondering if that is that too think of oil to where it cant make it to the lifters properly? i have a rear main leak so it loses a little bit of oil but its still near full on the dipstick.

<div style="text-align:left;">Try some of that and see if it works for you. 10-30 should be fine. My 97 calls for 10-20, but it’s got a lot of miles on it. A thicker oil helps compensate for wear. Marvel mystery oil is a light machine oil and can’t often free up a stuck lifter if it isn’t too bad.</div>
