I am in the process of looking for a XL standard cab shortbed with 5 speed manual 2.3l or 2.5l. Now there are PLENTY with high miles and at first I wanted to stay away from them, but the ones with low miles our outrageously priced and very hard to find.

My question is what can I expect a 02-03+ XL Ranger with 2.3 or 2.5 to run to mileage wise and where can I find a new crate, or place where they sell engines out of wrecked cars with like 50k on them?

I can get alot more truck for the money if I sacrifice some mileage but just want to know how much these little engines run, or too rebuild one fully. Im thinking this way I can mod one when I rebuild it too =D.

you best bet would be a junk yard a new/rebuilt crate motor can cost close to what the truck will cost you, if your looking for a 02-03 its going to have a 2.3L duratec motor 2.5L your looking at 2000 or older

 

I would think that the 2.3 would be fairly easy to find used a Junkyard due to there variety of use and the number of them out there.... Id imagine that the motor re-man from ford would be a few grand but you get a warranty with them

Edit; I found a price from Tasca for the 2.3l for a short block and it about $1000 so id imagine a long block would be prolly around 2 or 2,5
