d30 parts list needed

Ok so far I have a lvl 2 rear a 4wd transmission,a bw1354 and a drive shaft

Im doing leafs for now, and I know I need a yota box, but what year yota box do I need?

What else am I going to need.

I don't really need to know why/how I need a d44 or a 60 with 14 bolt or anything lol.

I figured a d30 out of an xj would be perfect for me, and for the amount of wheeling I do a d30/8.8 combo will be fine and would last me forever.

Thanks in advance, Andrew

Early 90s 4wd yota box..

read up partner, if you're at the "make threads asking simple questions" stage, you should do a ton of reading before. Then when you have the general idea of what you need, there's certain members that are best to ask those kinds of questions to.

For example, do you have a plan for steering setup? I myself am still lost and researching how to do that haha.

But here's a link to Zabeard's D30 thread.
https://www.ranger-forums.com/f82/za...37/index5.html

What year is your XJ? I'm getting a D30 also out of an XJ, looking at a 96 because I'm pretty sure that has the best parts.

bigandrw 11-09-2010 02:32 PM

Thanks evan.

Aaron. Im still searching how the stearing setup will be. The xj I was looking at was a 97.
But the reason I just started a thread was because I knew alot of folks would have a plethora of info, but I figured id get the classic SEARCH DAMNIT!!!

zabeard 11-09-2010 07:24 PM

its retarded to use an XJ axle on a leaf spring setup. once you can tell me why i will post more info. But honestly you have a ton of reading to do.

also dont you have an XLT?

Yah why not go with a YJ axle, remove vacuum tubes, remove old axle shafts, put in TJ axle shafts. Then you're there.

And Zach, your response makes me glad you'll answer some of my questions haha. Do you have any good resources on steering setup? Thanks,

-Aaron

*edit*

Andrew, I just saw you havent bought the axle yet. Since you want leafs go with a YJ axle. You will need to buy some related parts to make it as strong as the TJ/XJ but it already has leaf hangers. I don't know if they're in the right place, I'm not going the leaf route. It doesn't really sound that much more epxensive to go coils.

zabeard 11-09-2010 08:13 PM

read my sticky thread. it explains it all.

zabeard 11-09-2010 08:15 PM

ill make it easy

Zach, the reason I want leaves is because I don't have money to throw into my truck like some folks.
Yes I know sas builds will drain every penny I have, but I want leaves because it would be easier for me because I don't have access to a welding rig. Other than a buddy, that's it. I would love to do a coilover setup like some folks but I don't have the funds for it. I know I need to search more and I don't need a lecture on where the search button is, but all I wanted was a parts list. I was hoping someone would throw me a bone you know? Sasing is a whole new monster for me, and that's why I've been on here non stop reading and reading and reading. And yes I have an xlt. What's the problem?

Aaron, my reasoning behind an xj d30 was because I have access to one

I don't think he was commenting on you using leaves. XJ is currently set up for coils.

zabeard 11-09-2010 08:59 PM

The reason I say that is because you can't just make a list for a sas.

zabeard 11-09-2010 09:00 PM

Also if you don't have the money don't do it. It will nickel and dime you to death and it won't be worth a dime when you are done. Trust me.

bigandrw 11-09-2010 09:04 PM

Yes I know they are. But I just thought I could make use a leaf setup instead. Oh well not a big deal

Zach I understand man, I just was looking for a basic place to start. seeing as how I look like a complete DA now

Truer words have never been spoken.

bigandrw 11-09-2010 09:07 PM

I have money to do it, it would just take time for me. Somethings I don't mind spending extra on. And it will have more of a sentimental value to it because its going to my little brother once he becomes of age. Idk Im doing it more for him because I would like him to have the things I never could. Idk no one needs a sob story

Lone_Ranger 11-10-2010 01:19 AM

Nothing wrong with using an XJ axle, dead simple to grind all the coil stuff off and weld on some spring mounts. A late model TJ axle would work too. Just make sure you don't get one of those POS later Grand Cherokee CV outter shaft D30s, they're junk. LR

These guys are right. It's pretty dang expensive to do. Buy it's your truck and your decision.

I'll throw ya a bone as far as parts off the top of my head.

Axle - if you get an xj axle, you'll also need new leaf spring perches and ubolts and spring plates. Also, make sure you find one that matches your gear ratio. You'll save some coin by doing that and not having to regear.

Leaf springs- what leaf springs are you gonna run? There are tons of different lengths and stuff. That's a days reading all in itself

Steering- what steering box, pitman arm, tie rod ends, drag link, tie rod. Are you gonna run high steer or crossover? Or just a gay jeep setup? I'll post pics of said setups later on when I'm home.

Shocks - self explanatory

Front driveshaft

Leaf spring hangars and shackles. What kind of shackle are you gonna run and how do you plan on mounting everything to the frame?

That's just off the top of my head. Look at any and all SAS threads. Not just for rangers. Creativity is always kool

zabeard 11-10-2010 10:21 PM

I am not trying to make you look like a DA, I am just trying to get you to really think about the decision you are making. I wouldnt recommend a SAS'd truck for a 16 year old to drive as his first truck. It again will nickel and dime him. Granted my truck isnt the best example but I spent thousands on my first swap to finally get it to drive reliably and correctly. Its a royal pain to get it right. I had highrollerii drive my truck with that setup and he can attest it drove awesome, but I also spent 6000+ just on a D30 setup. I did the same thing if not more on my D44 setup, then redid it again to a 3 link which made it even better. And here I am again with a D60. I have spent so much time and money on it that it is ridiculous, granted I could drive it across the country when I am done. I just think people do a SAS for all the wrong reasons. I did that at first. Now I actually use it. a SAS'd truck is not meant for a DD.

i wish tht wasnt such a damn long post lol id put it in my sig. all those words are true. if your not going to wheel it, dont build it theres no point. just do a body lift or somethin. and yes, u better have some money saved for the project. i spent around 3500 all said and done. nothing near zacks build but i went with leafs for the sake of my budget

shadow905 11-11-2010 06:53 PM

wow...6 grand?

bigandrw 11-11-2010 06:53 PM

No I plan on wheeling it, hence the reason for an sas. Im going with a dana 30 and 8.8 because I do wheel but not often. And im already as tall as I can get for a 2wd ranger. And for me 90% of the reason I want to solid axle it is because I want my truck to be 4wd. Lol and before anyone says anything, no im not going out and buying a 4x4

shadow905 11-11-2010 06:54 PM

go out and buy a 4x4

lol
