Icon4 sas d30 hp help?

few months back i got a d30 hp out of a 99 jeep cherokee, 123k miles. 0nly paid 150$ for it so i couldnt turn it down.

i know that the 44 or 60 or whatever the other popular heavier duty axels are a better choice but i dont wheel my truck at all. just a mall crawler or show no go... seriously i know there is a hatred for the d30 like no other but i know it has been done and can be done so that is what i am using.

i am hoping to have someone on here or as many people as possible tell me what i need to get for this to go in.
a list of parts with all details ect. such as brakes, springs, shocks with sizes, any info i would be more than greatful.

just a run down so far. i have a 2006 fx4 level 2. torsion bars are cranked to the max and actually even further due to longer bolts i used. (worst ride i have ever experienced) hence the swap. the rear has factory leaf lift blocks with sport track springs. the truck sits very high and good for the wheels and tires i have.
nitto trail grapplers 295/70/17. no rubbing and no scrubbing. but i want this same ride hight and no bounce so i will be getting the d30 swap underway soon.

any help as far as stuff i need to get please help help help. thanjk you in advance rangerforums.

my main focus now is what steering box do ineed to get and pitman arm and length ect ect. and the brakes.

ready?.....and GO!

also, the welding and fabricating isnt a problem . i used to work at a chassis and fab shop and that is where the truck will be . in the hands of some of the best pros around with suspension and geometry. the hard work and welding will not be any issues. it a time sensitive matter so i want to have the front end ready and all parts for it ready as well.

Nice truck. Don't listen to the d30 haters. Plenty of folks run a 30 with 35's. So if anyone comes in here whining about your choice, ignore the .

That being said, I am also in the process of a d30 swap into my 06 level II.

What parts to use will vary depending on intended use.

You mentioned mall crawler, so no offroading at all? Why not just swap to coilovers instead of t bars?

If your dead set on a d30, then I'd suggest doing a lot of research on the threads here and the ranger station. Lots of good info.

Parts to use, well you can use most of the jeep stuff, steering, brakes, etc. Steering most people use a Toyota steering box, with a custom steering shaft, you will need long arms, coil buckets and shock mounts custom for the ranger side of things,

Brakes you can get a hose made to adapt the ranger side to the jeep side of things. You will lose abs (a good thing IMO)

Lots more needed, but that's a quick run down. Just do lots of research. And double your budget that you have in mind right now lol.

I'll get the years for you, but its from a 80's pickup. People like these since they mount on the outside of the frame, easier to do as theres not a lot of room to mount it inside. But its possible

No problem. I'm slowly gathering all the parts I need, and hope to get it done in a week once I have everything.

Some people do em in a day, its crazy. But I don't have a ton of time to set aside and do haha.

Look at RazorEdges build thread. It's pretty much everything you need to do for sas with a HP d30

They're all the same, only difference is you have to cut off the t bar mounts.

does any one know what brakes work with the d30? i hate i mean hate the jeep brake system and calipers so i was wondering if there is any other combos anyone has done or used from other vehicles. if so what years and what parts do i need.

the brakes that came on the 30 were only rotors calipers are gone and brackets are still there.

also i have a set of cobra brakes left over from previous builds and was wondering if there was a way to use those?

and i am pretty sure my level 2 comes with an 8.8 in the rear? i think? not sure so could i use an explorer rear 8.8 with disc or is my stock axel any better?

or do they make a conversion kit for the level 2 rear axel to swap the drums to disc?

Yes you have an 8.8.
Its the strongest 8.8, but no there's no disc conversion that I know of.

You can of course swap to the explorer 8.8. You will have to do some fab work though.

there are plenty of conversions for the 31 spline 8.8, you can put mustang brakes on explorer brakes Cadillac el darado brakes willwoods Bears what ever you want. just match the axle flange to the bolt pattern on the caliper bracket.

heres one of the many options.

TeraFlex Ford Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit for Ford 9", 8.8", and custom TeraFlex housings - TF-4354400

Ya the 31 spline 8.8 has ford big bearing flanges, if you look at grants mustang brake swap thread it has a comparison diagram between the 28 and 31 spline flanges.

Stock Dana 30's are 27 spline.

The 31 splines you need to upgrade stuff.

Level II axles are 31 spline.

thanks bud!. so do i need to do anything to the gears or the carrier if i upgrade to 31?

so far i ordered some new ball joints and new axel seals and bearings for when i go to do the build up.
i am using the axel as it is now for mock up and fabrication and welding. after i secure the perfect fit and geometry ill rebuild the d30 with all new parts

i dont want to go welding on that housing and throw all the heat to bearings and seals.
