10 bolt chevy side is good for SAS?
yeah as the title says.
and is it hard to put a NP 205 with my transmition |
No the 10 bolt is not a good swap. it is passenger side diff, so it wont work. And there is no way to mate a NP205 to the ranger tranny.
|
i thought it was passenger side but was not sure.
|
You could probably mate it useing a "divorced" transfer case configuration, but you have issues with the gas tank location, adding another cross member, and you'll have a pretty weird geometry for the shifter with the transfer case that far back.
It would take quite a bit of engineering I think. If you did that though, it would eliminate the issues with the passenger's side drop obviously. A Chevy 10 bolt is basically a Dana 44 as far as strength and so forth. Might want to just find an appropriate 44? |
you could do a divorced NP205 transfer case, but good luck finding one....and good luck coming up with the funds for it.....the divorced transfer case is a popular thing in off-road trucks....

you wont be saving any money in the long run, cause the amount of money to swap over to passenger drop, will far excced the cost of a D44
|
ok....... ill go 44 then

dont even bring that idea up. then i would be ashamed to own it or even call it a ford. |

that is 1 think that irratates me more than anything..... |
Hey, Chevy has made some OUTSTANDING powerplants and drivetrains. Were it practical, I'd consider some of that stuff myself based on it's longstanding reputation.
Ford has similar stuff as well, no question. There's a lot of good stuff out there from different manufacturers for sure -- it's just not always "within reach" to hybrid some of the stuff. |
i agree Chevy has made some good powerplants.........and for some reason, the aftermarket world too a following to them and not so much with Ford's.....parts are a lot cheaper for a 350 Chevy than a 351 Ford....
|
You could likely have an adapter made for the NP205 case to take care of the 10 bolt's passenger drop. That'd be pretty pricey though I think...
And didn't the 10 bolt come with front-to-back steering? I know my Chevy D44 did. You'd have to convert that to crossover probably. |

You'd have to convert that to crossover probably. and you would have to re-route the exhaust to the drivers side if it was a passanger side drop on a Ranger.....that means new, custom Y-pipe, hangers, and brackets.......but then the fuel tank is in the way on the drivers side... |
any more opinions
