I went into the local 4x4 shop and was asking about suspension lifts for my truck and the guy working there told me I was pretty much outta luck because the suspension on the 05's is different, I really want the RCD 5 inch lift but he said that it wouldn't work, is this true? Am I outta luck until someone developes a suspension lift for my truck?

 

Nope, it's the same as every other 4x4 Torsion Bar Ranger out there. The only thing [suspension wise] that is different about the Level II's is the shocks.

 

Adam's right, and that guy is smokin' something. Just make sure you don't have pulse vacuum hubs and the RCD will work fine. You can talk to Jared (Mudhippy) and Jared (Rangerboy03lv2 I believe?) and Brent (Stone02) to get some more information on it, I'm sure they'd be glad to tell you their experiences with it.

 

The only thing that would stop you is your rotors. Your rotors are 12 inchs ... the rcd kit will only work up to 02 because in 03 the rotor size went to 12 inchs. You will need to buy 11.25 inch rotors and you can install the rcd with no problems. You will also need to get the ubolts for the rear since you have the 31 spline axle and the kit gives you ubolts for a 28 spline axle. rcd makes the ubolts you will just have to order them.

you dont have pulse vacumm hubs. good luck!

the 04 and 05 Level II have larger brake rotors. Call RCD, you'll have to go down to an 11.25 inch rotor I believe for the lift. You can also do a 4 inch superlift.

Has anyone priced rotors from Ford? Jared, don't you have some slotted rotors that you put on?

 

naw i have some cheepy nap rotors on there for now ... i ordered slotted ones before i got the rcd and they were the 12 inch rotors so i sent them back ...

 

Damn, forgot all about that rotor size changing from 02 to 03. I guess that's why you get paid the big bucks.. well, not per say.. moving on...

Thanks a lot guys, that really helps me out. I was pretty bummed when he told me there wasnt anything I could do suspension wise to lift my truck. He said there were def. body lifts, which I am planning on getting within the next few weeks along with new rims and 33" tires to tide me over until spring when I will have the cash for the RCD lift and some 35's.

 

if you get smaller rotors, would you need a different caliper bracket?

 

nope, i asked jared the samething he used the old stuff, so all u need to do is rotors

 

but if you get smaller rotors, the brake pads are covering less area, then again, its only less then .5 an inch gone, but then again, rolling 31s and up, you need the extra stopping power

 

ya but i dought 3/4 of an inch makes much difference, could be wrong tho

when you go with larger tires you need MORE stopping power not less
RCD should get off their a s s and make design adjustments

 

actually if u look at the 12 inch rotors ... u done use alot of the inside of the rotor... so when u go to the rcd and have to run a smaller rotor you actually use the whole rotor not just the outside of it.

the diameter of the rotor, just like the diameter of the tires makes a big difference
the smaller rotor just will not have as much effective surface area
less metal means it heats up faster and will be prone to warping sooner

 

this is true... if u are going for new rotors might as well get some slotted or drilled rotors to help keep them cool. After doing 100 to 45 with 35s im surprised my rotors arnt warped lol

powerslot makes some good ones then u can also have them drilled i believe

 

Powerslot and Brembo both make slotted and crossdrilled rotors for our trucks, NOT sure what size tho.

Two best websites I've found are www.truckperformance.com and www.tirerack.com TireRack is waaaay expensive but they have more choices.
