86 ranger 4x4 upgrade

im getin ready to upgrade suspension on the ranger, was wondering if you can get the big wider twin i beam style front end on a 4x4. like the prerunners, or is that just 2wd only? please add any 4x4 upgrade ideas thanks.

the 1967 to 1972 original ford bronco solid front axle is the correct width for the generation 3 rangers

your 1st generation ranger will require some shortening of the axle width after that it is a complete bolt on

you just have to relocate the radius arm mounts further back as well as using the original ford bronco radius arms

It's gonna be custom. I don't believe there is a mass produced "kit" that can just be bolted on. I do know there are a few companies out there that make extended beams for 4wd Rangers. I'm not all that familiar with them myself, but I bet there's a few prerunner guys on here that know what I'm talking about.

the TTB front axle assembly is very weak , even for a dana 50 axle housing

the weakest link is the passenger side axle shaft , 2 pieces from the housing to the spindle and 3 u-joints

that is why most older model ranger owners switch over to the solid front axle assembly

the pre runner setup you refer to , is the 2 wheel drive setup which is very strong

well the ttb front end is the only option for goin fast off road with 4x4 and they have worked well on all ford trucks and perform better than wishbone, my friend has an offroad fab shop if i can get some good plans for the long travel widened ttb i could do it for cheap.
