Superlift Opinions?

Yea, I know there are tons of threads on the Superlift suspension (and I have read most) but Id like to know what people who have had the kit for a while think. For background, I have a 03, 4X4 EDGE 4.0L, 4.10 gears, powertrax no-slip in the rear, and James duff traction bars. Since I have the torsion bar front suspension the super lift is the only lift that will just bolt on, Right? What problems or dislikes do you have about this system? I know the drive shaft wears out quickly, and the lift blocks in the rear are not the best idea, I would rather go to coil over suspension but can’t justify the price. Do you gain any wheel travel with this lift? I’m guessing its minimal if any, and how are the superlift shocks, would ride better with bilstien shocks? I’m planning on going to a 35x12.5 BGF AT tire and maybe the staun beadlocks so I can air down more in sand and rocks. This is still my daily driver and I drive fast so that’s why I’m looking at the BFG AT like I have now instead of a MT, and id like to avoid any bump steer if that is a problem with this lift. I take this to the mountains in Colorado 3-5 times a year other than that its mostly highway driven, but I still like to wheel pretty hard when I do, I had a bronco before this so I probably push it harder than I should but have had no problems yet.

A Superlift is your only option for a suspension lift on a 4x4. The travel stays the same and the Superlift shocks aren't known to be the greatest. A Bilstein or Fox shock would be better. Overall, I like mine and have no complaints. Not to mention, my ride is alot better than stock with my set-up.

a review you ask...

cons - tortion bars stay at stock height, sway bar end links are crap, needs to replace front drive shaft eventually, still a stock suspension, $$$

pros - bolts on in about day, gain ground clearance at the frame, able to clear 33's, overall appearance looks bad ***,

ive had mine for about a year and love it. it costs allot but its worth the expense over a BL if you really wanna use your truck imo. not to say a body lift isnt any good (i have one too) but i would get a superlift before a bl. as far as for 35" tires.... some ppl can get away with it but i couldnt with just the superlift, without tagging the body badly

Do a coilover conversion, make your own sway bar end links, and buy or make a drive shaft and the only real con is cost. If you are looking for travel then get a long travel kit or SAS.

I'll just say "ditto" on what -spilly & KLC said, and add what you already know; the stock front driveshaft must be replaced, so just include it in the cost of the overall lift job. Also, be prepared to make a trip or two to the hardware store for missing fasteners. The retards who work in the Superlift shipping department can't count to ten

i have a superlift kit on my Explorer , , i know, i know, not the same,, but in fact it mostly is, there are some drawbacks, like said before, it moves everything down, including the torsion bars, but like KLC said with the coilover conversion it takes them away, and gives so much more clearance under the rig,
A double cardan front driveshaft is required, and that is available without going to the superlift front shaft, the one i got for a 1991 ranger 4x4 had a double cardan on it, and bolted right in, or get a front shaft out of a 1996 Explorer , they were D C too and should bolt right up, ,

Got'r done!

Well it took me a while but I finally got the lift installed, and some new 31570r17 BFGs and Procomp wheels installed. Overall I like how it looks and rides, but the lift install was way too much work for myself and some jackstands, dont recommend that. get an impact wrench and a lift if you can find one.

looks very nice, love the black wheels with white truck (huge fan of black wheels anyways!)

silly question and possible threadjack, the shocks are longer than factory arent they? i need new shocks but i want to get a superlift next winter/spring instead of just getting new shocks now

and will 35s clear a non bodylifted 06 with a supelift? otherwise ill go with 33s after my 32s wear out

/threadjack

thanks!

The shocks are definitely longer... I think they're actually about 5" longer extended. You may be able to clear 35's if you really crank your bars as well. I know I had to trim the valence for my 33's and there isn't much clearance on the back when flexed with them.

35" should be no problem

You should be able to clear 35 or 315,s no problem, I trimmed about 1/4 -1/2" off the inside of the bumper that rubbed under turning and compression but that’s really nothing to worry about. I actually backed the torsion bars off about an inch to bring the front back down closer to the rear lift, still have 4” of lift in the front. The shocks are definitely longer, 3-5" id guess, never expanded them side by side but they are longer for sure. I ran the stock shocks for 110K miles, they were pure garbage at that point, rear end bounced all over the place on a dirt road. Its better with the lift, but im still thinking about getting some better shocks.
