Add a leaf... AAL actual lift

i done a search, and have seen different aproximations for the amount of lift an AAL gives. iv been thinkin about getting ride of mine and putting a block back their so i can acheive a smother ride

so what is the real lift that AAL give? when i look under my truck, it looks like its only giving what the thickness of the leaf is which is like maybe 1".

the procomp short AAL has been reported to give anywhere from 1.5 - 2" of lift.

Chevy drop shackles (made by Beltech) will give you another 1.5 - 2" of lift if you need more.

In my truck, i did the Skyjacker leafsprings for 4" of rear end lift. IMO, that is the best option, although its a fairly expensive

i already have the beltech shackles on with my AAL already. just want to have a smoother ride in the back.

so if you say its gives you between 1.5-2" lift, u think if i took out the stock 2" block and replaced it with a 3" or 4" and keep the shackle in it would be the same lift as it is now?

ps- i have the procomp AAL

personally, i dont like lift blocks.

the AAL is what is causing the rough ride, not the shackles. it really stiffens the rear end.

the skyjacker leafs are very smooth. smoother than stock. like i said though, they are about $450 so maybe not your best option if cost is an issue.

yeah, part numbers are: FR34S for the 4" lift and FR36S for the 6" lift.

Note: the lift you get is WITH the stock 2" blocks. So if you want to get rid of the blocks and still have 4" of lift, get the FR36 springs (6" springs - 2" blocks = 4" total lift).

Another note: Skyjacker says these are for 97 and older rangers, but that is not true, they will fit all years, 1994 and later.

Summit does have them, do a google search too, theres a ton of retailers that sell them.

I'm with 08XLT4x4 on the no blocks. If you add some Skyjacker 4" leaf spring pack and no blocks you will have a lot smoother ride. Then add a James Duff Traction Bar and your rear end will be more stable. I'm going with Skyjacker 6" springs Belltech drop shackles and James Duff Traction Bar. I hope to be at level with the front or a little raked. I hate blocks and AAL, your stock leaf springs wear out quicker (depending on how you use your truck) and blocks can cause axle wrap.

You could keep the block, lose the aal, and get different spring rate rear springs...alot like how torsion bars have different spring rates(#1 B F).

If you've got C rated rear springs...might consider getting K's because they are 'softer'.

I put short AAL's, 2" drop shacles, and bilstein 5100's and it rides great!
