adjustable alighnment botls

I just replaced the top control arm with ballpoints installed . I was told to buy these bolts by my mechanic any one heard of such thing

j99ranger4x4 10-11-2011 02:00 PM

Yup factory bolts allow for like no adjustment. In order to align camber and caster u will need these bolts

long&strong 10-11-2011 02:22 PM

U would think the moog control arm would come with the new bolts or someone could have said something about the adjustment bolts that I need

FULLSCALE 10-11-2011 02:26 PM

I sell them once in a while... they don't come with them because you don't always need them. I didn't need any when I put an upper arm on my truck.

So how do I know if I really need them. 99 ranger 3.0 2wd

ranger4.0 10-11-2011 03:26 PM

i need them bad lol. where can you get them and is there any particular brand? how much adjustment am i looking for?

rangerrunner11 10-11-2011 03:31 PM

was told the same thing by the new who threw on my tires. i said no worried but 3 weeks later camber was going negative again. where yall pick the bolts up? summit?

rangerrunner11 10-11-2011 03:33 PM

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/UPI-3001/ is it just a straight up nut and bolt. I know the stockies have that dent in the side so they dont spin but it makes sense that is they dont spin you can align. thanks yall

Ok sweet. By looking at the nut shape could I just remove my flat sided stock nuts and grind them into this shape? Or does the precisesness matter? I mean 50 bucks is 50 bucks and I'd like to save it if I could.

FULLSCALE 10-12-2011 04:40 PM

Any auto parts store can get them for you.

ZWilson07 10-12-2011 09:11 PM

What causes you to need these, if you replace your control arms or what?

rangerrunner11 10-12-2011 09:15 PM

well if your new control arms arent the exact same as your stock then yes this would help the alignment guy align your truck better.

but the real reason is ford installed a "D" shaped nut on the two bolts for your upper control arm. The "D" shape does not allow for exact camber correction. They can do a good job but never perfect. So to combat this you buy the rounded edge "oval" shaped control arm nuts and waalaa they can correctly align your truck.

cranked torsion bars, bigger tires, etc will require these. the guys at the alignment shop thanked me for putting those on

and yes, these are the right ones (ingalls)

Oreilly, for example, sells them. They are a cam setup that allows for proper adjustment of cast/camber. Ford did the cheap route and got them out the door with a fixed position shim.
