My dealer said the same thing...so he just changed them out for me, but still sent me the standard shorter ones loose.
Got spaners! Went 50/70 on valving but may play around with it. The rod ends weren't bad just takes the right tools once I had them it was cake

If you are talking about Fox, I believe the ends are the same, but you'd have to check with a dealer. If there are no ends available, I could make a set if you're able to send me a shock I can work off of.

The rod ends aren't too tough. About the only "special tool" you'll need is something to hold the shock shaft, and maybe a long stick to turn the rod end ...

You can easily fab-up a shaft holdrer --For these 5/16" shafts, I use a block of oak (any hardwood should do) with a 5/16" hole bored through it that was cut in half (splitting the hole). This block can be clamped in a bench-vice or a press (I use) to hold the shock's shaft without damage

Steps to change are something like:
  1. Pull the bearing from your existing rod end
  2. Heat the rod end (it's on with a threadlocker)
  3. Hold the shock's shaft
  4. Remove the rod end (threaded on - Counter-Clockwise loosens; it'll be hot; a long stick or steel bar that fits thruogh the now vacant bearing hole is handy
  5. Clean the threads on the shock's shaft and in the new rod end (chloronated brake cleaner, brush, etc)
  6. Apply new thread locker (Locktite 271 - heat & handtool rated)
  7. Hold the shock's shaft
  8. Thread the new end on the shock and tighten
  9. Fit the bearing into the new rod end
  10. Let it all sit a few hours before beating it (allows the threadlocker to cure)

Haven't had a moment's peace when the weather was nice enough yet... Iimagine time is coming though, lots of stuff 'round here is finally getting 'caught-up' for the season so I can have some playtime.

My lift brackets have arrived...at my house...which I wont get to for at least a week. I bet they look awesome in their box!

Ordered my Fox coilovers today from Downsouth Motorsports. Super easy to work with. I should have my stuff in about 2 weeks because they didn't have the extended lower eyes in stock.

I'll be sure to post up as much of the install as possible...and, at very least, a finished shot.

Can't wait.

Thanks for all the good info on this thread. Made it seem so easy that I actually got off my can and ordered everything!

Yeah, you're why I went there. Essentially, this was the only place that anyone mentioned...and you liked them. That's better than me just guessing!

Update and Question

So, I got a look at my brackets today. They look great! Nice quality and flawless powdercoating. Had a fun game of 'pick-up' when I grabbed the bag of bolts. The bottom of the bag had torn open at some point and all those washers, bolts, spacers, and nuts went all over the place.

Anyway, my coilovers have shipped from Downsouth. I'm a little worried. I told them what I want to do with the truck (DD, slow ridin' on trails) and I also mentioned that it will be armored up at some point. So, 800lb springs are what they chose. Sounds wicked high but it'll just spur me on to make my bumpers, sliders, and skids sooner rather than later. I'm pumped to get it all put together! CO's should be in on Thursday.

Now, to my question: Limit straps. I see some pics posted above but I'm hoping someone can give me some better info on length and mounting style (if that's even right). And, maybe a bit about how/where you're mounting them. If this is in the other thread 'coilover madness', just say so and I'll cruise over there. I'll go look anyway, actually...

Don't worry, I'll get pics as I get along in the project. Whenever that works out to happening.

OK im going to noob this up im sure. But first i did read and look at most posts. SO this kit is removing the tbars and utilizing coil springs up front right?? Is it going to be any bit of a suspension lift or not?. If so could i get bigger shocks bigger springs in the front, then bigger springs and belltech shackels to get a nice lift kit going. I'm not to sure about the BL idea.
thanks guys

You can get lift out of a coilover setup, just as you can get lift from cranking your tortion bars. I have 3" of lift on my setup. It will ride better, though, depending on the spring rate you chose.

If you don't mind me asking, can you give me an estimate on your total investment into this? I'm weighing the pros and cons of this swap vs. SAS and I'm starting to lean towards this since I don't want to make a hardcore offroad truck, and I still want to drive it on the street

Consider that I want about 4-5" of lift

Sorry if you already answered this, but this thread has gotten lengthy for me to quickly search through it

What would common spring rate be roughly. I seen someone post up about some 800lbs that seems about right. I have a friend with an auto cross civic with 350lbs. Whats a good company to look in to? thank you sir. I think i'll be getting some deaver 2.5in for the back with belltech shackels.

I have about 1500 in the the set up after limit straps bumps front and rear shocks and the brackets.

I have everything installed but the coils themselves on right now just waiting till I pull my axle to have it re-geared to finish the welding and drill the last molt hole under the CV for the lower bracket.

Overall having the shocks is great, the brackets were a fight to get on and I had to do lots of grinding to get the spacers to fit with the shock and I also had to re drill the shock holes ruining my nice powder coat because the hole clearance was to tight to fit the shock bolt through with the powder. wasn't to happy about that but hey I didn't build them so I cant be to nit picky. I also had to BFH my lower mounts to sit flush on the lower control arm.

should have everything done by the end of the month just have to get a few pay checks to afford getting my gears and lockers installed and finish of the coils.

I welded a bar shaped like this " [ " to each side of the frame and used the included straps to mount them on.to the frame rail. It works well but I really need longer hoses with a 90 degree bend to make it perfect.

I have 650lb coils and they are perfect, I wouldn't do an 800 unless you had a 200lb bumper/winch on the front.

I left it up to the shop (based on vehicle, planned mods, and driving preference) and they chose 800lb springs. I'm a bit nervous about the rate but it will just 'motivate' me to get my bumper, rock rails, and skids done with the hurry up so I don't jar my teeth out. Of course, it's very easy to swap out coils...and they aren't too expensive so that's always an option.

Got all my stuff ready (except for limit straps)!

I would love to hear about the limit straps. What length (for a stock height truck) and how they are mounted...if anyone has info that would be cool. I'll go read what I can on the subject but if you're feeling particularily generous, it would not go wasted.

My truck's suspension is stock height and I used 10" quad straps and adjustable clevises from Beard/Redart. The bottom of the strap is bolted to a hole on the rear face of the LCA and the clevis mounts in a custom bracket up top. It should also be possible (and maybe easier) to invert the assembly and mount the clevis at the LCA instead. Whatever the method, be sure to check for possible interference with other parts at the extremes of suspension travel and steering. There's a lot going on up front.

I did this Bilstein 7100 shock upgrade a few years ago. It is not a coilover conversion but the mounting of the limit straps should be similar. Passenger side shown.

Very much appreciated! That's exactly what I was hoping for.
