dixon racing reservoir shock?

I have an 01 ranger edge 4x4 and was curious whos running these dbr resvervoir shocks on a stock hieght truck? For $600 is it worth it? I dont really want a lift and can't afford $3200 for a long travel set up. But I do off road threw the desert and at the dunes and dont want to have to worry as much.

For the rear? Specify here....

You might want to call camburg, they have a 4x4 ranger front end "upgrade" that comes with two pin top Bilstein 7100 series reservoir shocks and limit straps. You will pick up a small amount of extra travel and much better dampening. Disconnect the sway bar with that for better results. That will still likely run you 500-600 just for that. For the rear I would get traction bars and look into different leaf springs so you can ditch the lift blocks, and run bilstein 5150 shocks or 7100 series with custom mounts.

That isn't going to be any sort of long travel but it would help soak up the bumps where you want to go play.

if you going to play in the desert, take your rear lift blocks out and flip your shackles in the rear get some expo springs and make your own expo/ranger hybrid pack.

The Dixon Kit is internally limited so you don't need straps and they are fully bolt on which is nice. I have been eying that shock upgrade my self but don't really have any experience with it.

from the website;

Performance Shock Upgrade Kit for:

1998-2008 Ford Ranger 4wd
2001-2008 Ford Ranger EDGE & Sport 2wd
1995-2001 Ford Explorer 2wd & 4wd
2001-2005 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac 2wd & 4wd
Kit Price: $599.00

These Shocks are as far as you can go with the factory suspension without installing a Long Travel.

Check out what one of our customers had to say about these shocks!

"Gravel washboards, busted-up black-top, dirt roads, train tracks...don't matter. They soak it all up! I couldn't be happier."

Oh I guess I hadn't seen that setup. I bet it rides nice. The best ride I ever got from the Ranger was with bilsteins, no sway bar, no torsion bar crank, and newer moog front end components. The ride degraded a little bit after running around the dunes for a fair amount of time, probably from over-heating the small shock bodies.

By my post i meant the only 2wd they will fit is the edge model. I beilive these are radflo shocks that have been reworked by the Dixon bros.

I talked to the Dixon bros today and they confirmed that it was a radflo 2.0 shock that they custom order for this application.

fyi, radflow uses steel bodies, if your out mobbing around fast off road you will expericace some shock fade, but not a ton. also with the bodies holding the extra heat they will need servicing more often
