Dude you dont even have to flip your hangers, with your truck being an edge its 2 more inches taller in the rear than 4x2's with 2 inch lift blocks. Just take out the blocks and buy smaller u bolts or the same ones as the xlt 4x2's and it will lower the rear 2 inches.

So if I'm reading you right, all i have to do is remove the blocks between the axle & springs & put smaller u-bolts back on. That should lower the back 2 inches. All i want to do is level the back & throw some 18's on. Sorry if i sound naive, not a tech guy(unless it's stereo's)

My turn to look naive, is it difficult to remove the spacers? I have access to a lift and air tools. Was curious to see if there was a way to know what size U-Bolts to get before hand...I suppose I could just buy a few different sizes and return the ones I didnt use.

If anyone has done this befpre can you tell me about how long it would take? Sounds like it is much easier than flipping the hangars.

I would think just take off the bed right.. Or is it the frame to axle blocks?

I finally got a chance to flip my hangars. It was pretty easy, the rivets were a pain in the a$$ but other than that pretty simple. Did the work by myself and it took me about 4 hours to do both sides. Will post pics when I get a new digi camera. My old one got dropped in a pool. Truck is perfectly level according to my measurements. It feels wierd driving after doing it though because you feel like you are hanging a$$.

You mean dragging ***?

Imagine driving around with as 7 inch drop in the rear, or hell even 6 like im sitting at now..

Yea I meant dragging ***. But I mean just compared to the angle the truck was sitting at before (leaning forward), you can feel a major difference. At least I thought so.

drop it first to see if you like it low, than bag it.

shouldnt notice a ride difference with only a 2 inch drop..

I know I will like it low. I had a 95 S10 that was bagged before. Only reason I got rid of it is because I got a good deal on a 91 Mustang.

Is that bad for your axle or rear suspension?

i havent heard anythign bad about it.. you still have the same load rating... only problem could be your pinion angle, but supposedly its not enough of a drop to matter...

Yes the hanger flip will make your *** level with the front and with such a minor amount of drop it will not affect your pinion angle enough to cause any problems. Maybe with a flipkit it will but each truck is different some get vibrations due to the pinion angle being changed some do not each truck is different. I do not have a problem with just a flipkit nor did I with blocks but I guess I was lucky.

Also as asked above wanting a 6/8 drop lowest you can go in the front is 5 inches or you not be able to align it even with an eccentrics kit, in the back 7 is pushing it esp if you have an 98+ ext cab with the one piece driveshaft you will rub you driveshaft on the gastank crossmember I beleve I think you can go a tad lower in the back with single cabs because the driveshaft isnt as long spanding and such but dont hold me to that, also if you plan on going that low in the back you have to worry about scraping your gastank as it hangs a couple inches lower than your framerails.. I know just with my flipkit I cant fit a popcan underneath my gastank...

if ya want to lower it a good 1.5" and dont want to spend any money...just take out the stock blocks...and bolt up the u-bolts like they are right now and the back will loose that "stink bug" look.
