i'm just sayin theres somethings u can do that will work, but isnt the best/most practical...
forced induction hoods for example...the kind with the bird catchers sittin out of the hood....now u're not SUPPOSED to use them, due to the fact 1) they might be illegal 20 you're increasing u're odds a lot of getting random crap in u're engine....but u CAN do it and it will work...theres just more percautions....plus they have to haul ass home when it rains... |

hey you can run 33x12.50 on stock rims and its safe i did it and still ran the desert with fabtech lift and never had a problem until i jumped it and landed on a rock and cased the rim so i bought some american egales for 60 a peice

I dont really know much about offset but I know about everything else. I drive a 99 XLT Ranger stepside which fits 31's very easily with room to spare. So I guess I'll get 15x8 rims and 33x12.50 tires but what should my offset be? I'll do the torsion bar crank to get them to fit because I own a body lift but pretty much my dad wont lets me install it(he says my truck will be too tippy). I think I'll put the lift on when i get the tires cause he might not be able to tell the difference. Stupid parents...

the stock backspacing on the stock rims is 4.5"....i would get 3.75"....maybe even 3.50" backspacing....but nothing more than that.....u shouldnt look too "tippy" with those on there.... of course...Tippin Over's a good thing.....:banana: |

Safety issue aside for a moment, if you're going to run them on the street, you'll wear them out in the center obscenely quickly. It causes the tread to have more of a "radius" to it which wears the center tread quickly.
Better you get a recommended size wheel because part of that recommendation is the physical geometry of the tire and weight distribution and contact patch geometry. |
it seems to me that my centers are weraing out before the outer edges...i keep them inproper inflation...and rotated...15x7 stocker rim with 31x10.50's...

I had the same problem and my tire guy told me to get 15x8's, which are the "design" size for my tires. This is problem with any larger tire on a stock rim. I did get the 15x8's.
Too soon to know if it's going to make a difference, but my tires are suddenly quieter. Go figure. |
well i had my tires for 5k miles past the the replacement miles and they look great there are 55k miles but i have little over 60k on them and many offroad trips with 15x7 and the psi recommended is 33psi and im running 29and no bulge and mpg didnt change i say do what you want with what you got and there will always be some hidden price to pay

Actually the bead would be harder to break on a smaller rim.
If you ran 33x11.5 on 15x8 and 15x7 the 7" rim would be more likely to keep the tire on if you were running low air pressure. Its not a matter of safety.. Its a matter of tire wear. If you run 33x12.5 on a 7" wide rim it will wear like crap, look like crap, and perhaps handle worse @(highway speed) but offroad it would be fine. As a general rule 4" is the most you want to go over tire size vs rim size. (at least at the tire sizes we are talking about). But of course that varies.. you arent going to mount an 8" wide tire on a 4" ford fiesta rim. The reason a 12.5" wide is better on an 8" wide rim vs a 11.5 on a 7... 12.5/8=1.56 11.5/7 =1.64 Does that make sense I'm sorta tired.. hah, so yes im a noob with the whole lifting and wheel deal.
Everyones turn to school me. i just got a new 04 edge 4.0 4spd 2dr bla bla bla anyways... gotta lift it and already found a couple sets of wheels to pick from. one is 15x8 one is x10....can i go 10 with a 3" spindle lift???? with no problems??? and if i go with 8 how big do u think i can go and with 10. keep in mind i live in frickin san diego so its almost 80% city driving. |

if you do the explorer pro comp lift on your 2004 edge, i would recommend running 33x12.50x15" tires on a 15x8" wheel...

if i go with the 15x10 wheel on that 33x12.50x15 wont i get a more precise fit??? u gotta keep in mind im in the city more. n it seems like people have rear clearance issues with 15x10...true, untrue?

15x8" are a perfect fit for 33x12.50...
you are going to have more issues with your suspension getting messed up with 15x10's... i don't know the actual terminology or parts affected, but someone else can post on the negative aspects of running 10" wide rims on a ranger... |
its puts more stress on the front suspension....imagine u're standing with u're legs slightly apart....now stretch u're legs about 3 or 4 feet apart...after a while it hurts, right?
same idea, the 15x10 doesnt work particularly well on our vhicles for some reason, i gues due to the fact of the torsion bars being there.... but definately go with a 15x8 wheel, no matter the tire size....if u want the rims/tires to stick out more from the fenders, get rims with a lower backspacing number. Stock, our rims sit about 4.5" of backspacing, so 3.75" or 3.5"....heck, even 3.25" of backspacing will be fine. |

hey thanks all for the help so far tho, i use to own a sweet 96 altima that was pimpadellic. the guys on altimas.net ran a sweet forum and were very informative and im happy the ranger forum runs this sweet too!

yes, the less backspacing, the more the rim/tire will be away from the fender well
