Yeah, so i skipped accouple steps and bought a 1991 Explorer Drum axle that had the perches all ready welded on


but im working on cleaning it up, I plan to strip it to the housing, and use other parts i have to build it up with my 04 trac disc brakes, 4.56 gears, and a torsen limited slip


Heres some orignal pics
came with free mud (hell for 40bucks, i couldnt complain)





used a cordless drill and a wire wheel, pulled the brakes and diff cover

also has a welded carrier, that my buddy wants for his drag truck, and im most likely trading the remaining parts to have a buddy install my newer parts

What should i used to clean out the diff fuild and grease?

 

brake cleaner...

 

thats it? could i use a degreaser? ive got a **** load of that at work

 

yea.....it is the easiest thing to use.......i guess you could use degreaser....

i figure since its all going to be new and fresh, i wanna clean out the insides, just dont want to have to buy alot of brake cleaner to do it

 

i would use brake cleaner... that stuff evaporates so quickly that it is easiest to use

 

I would also use brake cleaner.....Degreaser leaves residu (sp)

Looks like there was water in that diff, looks milky.....

I need to change my diff fluid bad...

weird, cause the guy had the vent tube ran all the way to the engine bay

 

bad wheel seals can let in water, or sand... lol

 

Thats what that is in the pics. I merely thought you had the garden hose hooked up to the tube to flush it all out or something LOL.
