Groaning noise from left front wheel area

Hello everyone, I have just joined and I'm looking for some help.
I have a 2007 FX4 level ii and lately it has produced a groaning noise from the left front when I back up or shortly after I pull off. The noise then goes away.
It seems to only do this when the vehicle has been standing in a cold place. (pretty much anywhere now that winter is here)
Does anyone have any ideas or come across this before?

jack it up. Check bearings, CV joints, inspect function of brake caliper. While your there, might as well inspect ball joints and steering mechanisms.
Search youtube for each of these items.
