HIGH RYDER
HIGH RYDER
hi- the search i have been doing to replace my rusted out shocks and broken stabilizer bar link have led me from o'reilly's a. p. to ford parts.com....each place i have searched for the shocks is telling me they will fit all EXCEPT 4x4 w/ high ryder option. its a 95 4x4 with the dana 28 axle and even ford parts isn't telling me whether my truck has that ( ?...how can they not know from the VIN i gave)- but i guess 95 was a big engineering detail change year for the rangers. would appreciate any info before i buy the 32296 monroe or the AS-464-G original ford shock. thanks
I am pretty sure the last year of the high rider suspension was 1989. They called it something else in 89 but it was still the same thing. You would not have the high rider suspension in a 95 Ranger unless someone changed the suspension.
thanks. was starting to think no one had ever heard of it. am going to check the cross reference charts to verify the correct shock and go from there. i do wonder what this 'high ryder' package consisted of though?
Anyone ever find the solution to this?
im having the same issue with an 08. Where the shock is a correct size, but the stud on top is too short. Needs to be at least 4". I cant find any option that will fit. Any ideas?

Only issue you should be having with an 08 is the difference between a 4x2 with coil springs and a 4x2 SPORT or 4x4 truck with torsion bars. Coil spring trucks use one shock, the 4x2 SPORT and 4x4 trucks use another.
Update on shocks/springs

well i have received the computer print out of the current alignment from the same garage that did the first about 90 days ago- this print out tells me that the alignment is spot on! No- the mechanics try but have no explanation of why the drivers side tire is entirely bald on the inside 25%- yet the passenger side is wearing normally...??? this will be the second tire- a Goodyear GT with 20K- to be ruined. and that in barely 2000 miles??!!
To be quite honest, the Twin Traction Beam front axle on your truck can be problematic due to it's IFS design. You really need to make sure that every single ball joint, pivot bushing, tie-rod, center link, and radius arm bushing is in good shape before you have it aligned. Also look for cracks in the frame behind the steering box. Any one of these issues can wreak havoc on the suspension and cause uneven tire wear.
