I'm looking at replacing all my shocks with Rancho RS5000's. Does anyone know which part number I should get. I am not sure which one I need, as in for the collapsed length and extended length.

#1 (RAN-RS5229)
Extended Length (in): 18.250 in.
Collapsed Length (in): 13.750 in.

#2 (RAN-RS5126)
Extended Length (in): 26.250 in.
Collapsed Length (in): 16.000 in.

#3 (RAN-RS5125)
Extended Length (in): 22.250 in.
Collapsed Length (in): 14.000 in.


I have no clue what I should be looking for. If someone would like to explain it to me, I'd be interested. But if not, does someone know what lengths I should be looking for?




If this helps, I have 3" fabtech lift with cranked tbars, 3" blocks and Fabtech AAL's in the back, and I'm bout to do shackles.

call up rancho and tell them what you got..they should be able to get you the right ones..

thats what i did when i was looking at getting new shocks before the rcd..

told them the lift and stuff they got the stock info and told me part numbers but it was bilsten instead of rancho

 

You might as well get Monroes of u gonna get ranchos, they are made by the same company in the same wharehouse.

 

One of my Rancho Rs5000's broke after being installed incorrectly, I replaced it with a Monroe sensatrac, and I didn't notice a difference.

 

Yep, they are made by the same company. A Rancho 5000 and a monroe reflex is the same thing just a different color, and the 9000 ranchos just have a lil more dampening rate.

 

The primary difference with the 9000's is the adjustability. Not many (any?) shocks that aren't on a motorcycle have this feature...

 

Do Rancho's tend to be more expensive then Monroe?

 

Yep.

 

Tenneco Automotive makes both of them, and Dynomax Mufflers as well.

Besides the damping rate, the Ranchos have chromed shafts and the Monroe's have nitrided shafts that are dull gray color.

Some people like the Monroe's for the softer ride. I have Rancho RSX in the back of my Ranger, standard for the application and they tend to be a bit stiff. But with a heavier 31 spline axle, and full size 35" spare and tool box full of tools they're just right.

I modified my axle shock mounts so they are parallel to the ground instead of pointing down at an angle from the axle and it works pretty well -- one less "catch" point and I didn't have to change shocks when I lifted a bit more.

With the modified springs and a longer shackle, flex is quite reasonable. See my SAS pics thread or my Cardomain for how it is.
