I have a 2000 4wd 3.0L manual Ranger and I ordered the 3" body lift from Summit Racing. Looking at the shift extension, it didn't look that hard to make. I have a milling machine and a turning lathe, so I'm confident I can make it. With the tools I have, I couldn't see paying $40. The only question I have is what length do I make the narrow part of the shaft?

 

I made a custom extension as well, but that is only because I have a hurst shifter.

Are you talking about the extension shaft?

Im holding an extension in my hand right now, but I dont have a tape measure (it grew legs)

The narrow part of the shaft looks to be exactly 2 inches (maybe a smidge more or less)

I dont think it will matter if it is a little over or under 2 inches, just as long as you have all of the little grooves correct. I can take it to work tomorrow to measure it and give you an exact measurement if you would like.

 

I got to thinking about it, and common sense kicked in. If i'm doing a 3" body lift, I should make it 3" longer. Thanks for the offer tho!

 

Well, the shifter extension has a thicker shaft and a thinner shaft.

Just get a hurst! You will hate the way it shifts with an extension. Its super sloppy.

 

I had a Hurst for my 64 Comet and I hated it, took it back out. I'm gonna try to make the extension and go from there.
