I have been reading the site for hours on end over several days now. I have really learned a lot, but I am still quite newbish. I have tried the search function; but to be honest, it seems like its pretty weak. It doesn't search phrases, only key words. Therefore, I am have trouble finding exactly what I need. If I am searching wrong, please enlighten me.

Anyway, I have a 2009 Ranger XL 2wd 4cyl 2.3L. I read the wheel and tire thread, and I want to put a set of 31x10.5x15 tires on without trimming. In order to do this, I need to lift the truck slightly.

I would like to do the work myself, as I can follow instructions pretty well and I have the tools. I just don't know what parts I need. Can anyone offer some direction on the cheapest options for giving my truck the clearance for larger tires? What kit or parts should I buy? Just the bare necessities are all I'm looking for.

some 1 or 2 inch lift coils for the front should provide the right amount, and maybe some belltech 6400's for the back

 

spacers, coils, or spindles...im a fan of 2" spring or spacers...google canuckmotorsports or suspensionmax

It seems like the cheapest way to do it would be to get spacers for the front and shackles for the back.

All I need are the two spacers for the front? I just take it all apart and they sit on top of the springs? Then put it all back together?

Then for the back I just take it all apart and put on the shackles in the rear of the leaf springs, and put on the new U bolts around each axle on both sides?

Then bam, I have 3 inches of lift?

That almost seems too cheap and too easy! Why would anyone spend 1500 bucks on a lift from a shop when you can spend 130 bucks and do it yourself?

no need for prekey on a coil suspension. prekey is torsion only.

 

Bob, the coil spacers are going to go on the bottom of the coil. Unless something has changed since I bought mine few years back.

 

yea bottom of coils....for the shackle they go where the leaf spring mounts on the rear of the truck, you have shackles already, these are longer and hence provide the lift...its only about 1.5 to 2 inches though so dont get 3 inch coils unless you want to sit higher in the front

 

Does the '09 sit lower stock then my '99? I didnt need any lift to fit 31's.

 

You won't be able to use the 3" coils unless you want to replace the upper control arms as well. I would do spindles.

his is an 09' i was assuming that he had torsion bars. since i'm an 08 and i do.

 

but you are also 4x4. he is only an xl 2wd though.

Why spindle instead of coil spacer?

What exactly is a spindle lift? I can't find any for my truck. I think maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing?

 

Spindle is what your rotors mount to. They connect the upper and lower control arm. They run around $350 a set. Fabtech and doetsch make them. Can find them for 350 on Lift & Lowering Kits by Springtech, Most Affordable systems anywhere - guaranteed!. Spindles are easier to install I feel, no messing with the coils.

 

i didn't realize 2wd and 4wd were different. i thought it was all torsion

 

2wd xl and xlt are coilspring. 2wd edge, sports are torsion. all 4wd is torsion.
