I've got an 06' Ranger 4.0L Sport 5 Spd completely stock. I've been dying to lift it and want a meaner stance. I've been going over the options and I can't really decide. For a while I was stuck on the Dixon Brother's long travel kit but it's pricey and I don't feel like paying to have custom fiberglass quarters panels made. Then I was looking over the Superlift kit, it looks good but i hate how the torsion bars hang down at stock height it kind of eliminates the whole purpose of lifting the truck. The RCD is out of the question I've heard it has too many problems. No desire to get a body lift. I have no need for a prerunner either i live in New England so i think im gonna go with the Superlift though anyone have any opinions on it? Also the FX4's come with a fully skid plated undercarriage and I need that the bottom of my truck is always getting ****ed up anyone know if you can buy just the skid plates?

 

Make your own skid plates if you do some serious off-roading. The stock ones aren't great, but they'll take a little abuse. Your best bet will be a superlift. Welcome to the site.

 

Whats wrong with a body lift?

 

They're great for looks and fitting bigger tires, but they don't really get you any clearance. I would do both.

 

Eh, you gain body clearance. And ground clearance by allowing you to fit larger tires.

 

I just don't want a body lift cuz I don't want to have to deal with extending the brake lines, plus I'm almost positive I'd need a shift extension since my truck is a manual and I haven't been able to find one yet. Anyone know of a company that makes rock sliders for the ranger?

 

What so wrong with the RCP kit, IIRC it takes more effort to install the brackets and welding and such. Rock sliders...check with zabeard.

 

havn't looked hard enough for bodylift info have ya? search this forum...TONS of info to be had. Part #3700 on summits website will get you the shift extention. Get a hurst short throw and you wont need an extention.

No lengthening brake lines or anthing needed for the BL...just the fuel filler necks need lengthening...but whatever. do what you want.


RCD needs bracing on a diff drop bracket, and you need to down grade your brakes to run it, and thats IF you can find a kit since they have been out of production for a few months now.

Superlift is your only option...and dont say that it doesn't do what a lift kits purpose is: it DOES drop the suspension down and allows for larger tires to add in the chassis ground clearence. don't say stuff without thinking about it first.

 

Don't you have to install smaller brakes on all trucks after 04 with it? im pretty sure, not saying there's anything wrong with it, In fact i thought it looked the best of all the factory lift options but from asking around and reading reviews I just don't wanna have to worry about constant maintainance once i lift it.

 

If 03+, and installing an RCD, you WILL have to get 02 and older SMALLER rotors for the knuckles....Superlift was smart and included two sets of caliper bracket holes on their knuckles to fit BOTH sized brakes....so it'll work on ALL 98+ trucks.

constant maintenence? same exact maintenence as a stock vehicle, except you WILL need to upgrade that front driveshaft.
