Extra rear lift for 4x2 Edges

I found something out I didn't know: 4x2 and 4x4 Edges (and 4x4 XLT's and such) have different size axle blocks to lift the rear!

Despite the idea that the 4x2 Edge has the 4x4 suspension, that is apparently not QUITE true.

Carl (buckgnarly) gave me his old lift blocks after he got new springs. Just messing around last weekend I compared the ones of his truck (a 4x4 XLT) and my truck and found the blocks from the 4x4 were 1/2 to 3/4" taller than my blocks.

So, I swapped them and got about 1/2" or so more lift in the rear. This was great because I originally cranked the t-bars to level the truck, but since then I've added a full size 31" spare, a Hi-Lift jack, and other recovery equipment and tools. The extra weight made the rear sag too much and the truck looked too "pre-runner" for my taste.

Since I put the blocks in the rear came up to the more "nose down" attitude. I then put an additional 3/4 turn to the t-bars so it wouldn't be too nose down and the truck is visibly higher, with a very slight nose-down stance..

I know it's not a lot of lift, but it could be a cheap way to get a bit more if you have a 4x2 Edge so I thought I'd mention it.

Any idea what the OEM part numbers would be for the 4x4 blocks? Hmmm maybe I could look at my Dad's 2001 XLT 4x4 for it :)

Well I looked under both mine and my dad's 4x4 and as it looks they (4x4 blocks/spacers) are about taller.

I can tell you that the ones out of Q's 2WD Edge reg cab stepside bed are exactly 2" tall and will be going in my truck tonight.I took my aftermarket ones out because of alighnment problems.For some reason my truck dogtracks with them in there but when I took them out it goes straight.I did have to open up the hole some for them to fit over the stock pin so maybe that was the problem.With an empty bed my truck sits level but as soon as I put more than 80-100 lbs in the bed it wants to sag.Hopefully this cures all of my problems.

I wonder if there is any difference in Level II blocks?
for some reason LIL BLUE has always sat up higher than other comparable trucks

That's in part because of your 31 spline axle, which has a thicker axle tube. Whether the blocks are different also, I don't know.

But there are also variations I've seen even between two "identical" models. I think the rear springs have a lot of range of tolerance from the factory in terms of "arch".

Which spring code do you have for the rear, Neil?

Edit: Pretty old topic, lol. Since then I've gone to custom blocks made of a factory block and a 2" steel block welded together (special welding technique to weld cast material to rolled carbon steel) plus lift shackles, an additional leaf from another stock Ranger leaf spring, and 2" taller (1" more lift) shackles.

Good thing you covered up your VIN -- somebody could use it to get a mortgage or something...

The "C" rear springs are stiffer than the crappy "K" springs mine had. They probably take you FX4 guys up a bit over the average Ranger 4x4. Doc's 4.0 4x4, for instance, had the same "K" springs my 3.0 4x2 did! I know this because I have his springs on my truck combined with an extra leaf from my original pack.

Doc's were less ragged out than mine. With the extra leaf I have no idea what it is now -- but it's a LOT better and quite a bit more "arched" than before.

Every now and then I get extra paranoid about stuff like that. Took 5 seconds in photoshop, so..

Yah never know what kinda weird crap people can pull w/ too much personal information on you these days.
