So I bought the 2 inch lowering kit from hillbank about a month ago. It finally got here yesterday. I didn't feel like doing it myself and I don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge so my dad took the kit to a shop to get a price. The guy at the shop said that it's about a 6 hour job and they charge 50-75 an hour. Does 6 hours sound right??? I don't want to spend almost 500 bucks to have this kit installed, I'd almost rather try doing it myself...
My dad also seems to think that it is illegal to modify suspensions in NH, but I see lifted and lowered stuff all the time so that can't be true. Does anyone know about suspension laws?

 

Different year model truck then yours ( im rockin I beams ) but when me and a buddy put on my 3/4 kit it took us about 6 hours. That was with using a fully stocked shop with all the jacks airtools etc... But neither of us had ever installed any lowering kits before. I would think a shop that does this sort of thing on a regular basis would be faster. I would attempt to do it myself before geting raped for that much cash. It really wasn't that hard.

 

do it yourself. part of owning a truck is saying yeah i installed that or yup i put that on.

 

I know thats part of owning the truck, but I don't want to wreck anything..How hard would it be to install the kit myself? Is it something I could do with a few of my friends?

 

A regular shop better be able to install a lowering kit faster than 6-7 hours, that is ridiculous.

 

I did the front in about 1 hour per side. It's pretty easy. Just get the truck up on jackstands, take off the tire, drop the shock, and unbolt the swaybar and tie rod end. From there, jack up the control arm to relieve the pressure, and take out the spindle pinch bolt. Then just lower the jack (slowly). The spring will then just pull out. Put the new spring in its place, then reverse the process.

The back was easy after I got the hanger off. I grinded with a rechargeable grinder and the battery lasted about 2 rivets before a recharge. Just bolt up the new hangers upside-down and reattach everything.

It comes with detailed instructions, with pictures and everything. It will go faster if you have a real grinder and a friend to help you out, but I finished in a day by myself.

 

If it could wait till the 2nd week of May, we could get something together at my place in Danvers, and get that slapped on for you...

(or just toss a weekend day out an I'll see what I can do)

 

do it yourself, I wouldnt use that 2/2 kit it sucks from what i heard and you barely get a 2 inch drop out of the coils. DJM 2/3 is alot better and the back is a hell of a lot easier to do than grinding off the rivets on both front and back hangers.

 

I have an xlt now, no more keys for me..

 

That would be cool. I'm gunna go to one other shop just to get a comparison. If it's still too expensive I wouldn't mind waiting another month.

 

my 2/5 took me a long time.... about 14hrs for the front, and about 6 for the back...

i have never done anything major to my truck before that, so thats why. and being new to cars at the time, i didnt know what i was doing.

for the front i didnt have a coil spring compressor, or the right tools, so everytime i needed a new tool i had to put everything back together, drive to autozone, go home and pull everything off agian...

for the back, I accidentally twisted my leaf spring pack....so it was a RPITA to put back on, that took the majority of the time, but i do know that after all this, i can change a shock anywhere on my truck in less than 15 minutes lol

Yeah I kinda wish I hadn't bought it, but at the time the price won me over. I'm not looking for a huge drop anyways..

 

you will get barely any drop with that roush kit it just plain sucks form the pics I have seen. The DJM 2/3 is so much hotter looking if you dont want a ton of drop.
