x2.
All I can say is research my friend. All these things have been covered by lots of people many times before. Go through and read some of the build threads here and on TRS. Learn about your options. There's too many ways to do each part differently and its more complicated that you are apparently aware of at this point. Know what you're getting into before you get serious about it is all I'm trying to say. You can figure out some of your own rough estimates at least for parts by seeing what other people did. Then double that cost, I'm not joking. And good luck with it, an SAS would be sweet.

You'd be hard pressed to do a SAS on a 98-up for 2k. You'd be hard pressed to do it for 5K, especially since he's gotta convert the drivetrain to 4x4 as well.
