if your shocks are completely shot can that cause permanent damage to you springs, or is it something i can just put off till spring, i took one off to check the ther day and there was like no resistance what so ever, so they are completly shot

 

no, those springs will never fail...your most likely your going to have steering sway and front end diving in sudden stops. The shocks on my truck took about a half hour to get off. Putting them on was even easier. You could start spraying them with a penetrating oil to get a jump on taking them off. I would suggest getting them on asap. The top front shock where it can be seen over the front wheel in the wheel , just bend that bolt a dozen time or so and the bolt will snap off. Put a boxed end wrench on that nut and start bending it back and forth. The bolt will brake below the nut and the shock will drop down the inside of the coil spring.

yeah, i mean i was planning on getting them in the march when i get new tires, but i didn't want to end up ****ing up one or both of my leaf springs from hitin a bad bump with no shocks, i pulled one of each off to check, i didn't brake any bots but it was a pain in the *** to get off, the rear was really easy though. what kind do you think is good, i don't really want to spend alot of money since i can't find a job at the moment.

 

I know the Ranger has a "top heavy / roll over issue" so mine came with heavy duty gas charged shocks. They just never got softer, even after 2 years and about 20,000 miles. I went with Monroe Matic's, they were under $15.00 a piece. There are allot of shocks you can choose from...

 

The Gabriel Monotube shock is another great option! The springs will not get damaged if your shocks are wasted. Although you are prolly going to start getting some high/low spots in your tires! Seen it way to much!

 

so the monre matics are the ones you have on and have lasted a good while

 

yeah, I never thought the oem's would stay so stiff for so long, I switched them about a year ago now. Much better ride over train tracks. I don't go off road, tow that often or haul anything more then the sand bags for winter with the truck so I don't need anything more then a smooth ride. I like them...

 

maybe i'll look into those, i was looking at the rancho shocks for 50 a piece, but since the cheeper ones actually seem good i'll look at those, just have to look for ones that can handle weight, since i do haul scrap steel a good bit.
