sure thing. keep searchin, you will find my thread on here and all my thoughts on 14" coils with RCD shocks.

i dont understand why anyone would even want 14" coils on the RCD bils. you would hafta compress them so far to get them on you risk coil bind at full compression. again, keep searchin and you will find the thread with all the specs on the shocks and coils, then you can compare for yourself and figure out what coils will work and what coils wont

I'll see if I can locate the link if someone doesn't locate it between now and the time it takes me to get home and boot up my computer

EDIT:

it appears while I was on the phone with a patron Bob found the link (I haven't clicked on it though).

Thanks Gumby & Bob.

Psst, hey Bob...put a v8 into my 04 please :p

Wow Bob, just scanned that thread (wasn't the thread I was talking about, but...) and holy crap! BIG thanks to ya.

Gumby's thread.... https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=40439

My head is really starting to hurt just thinking about all the details. Compensating for the 1/2" mounting hole from rcd for the bilstien with 5/8" holes for a fox2.0, 6.5" vs 8.5" of travel, 12" spring vs. a 14" spring, 650lb rate vs 750lb rate, then you've gotta figure in the shock valving, nitrogen pressure, figuring out what size limit strap you need, getting the front end weight right-wheel/tire/lca/brake assembly weight.

BLAH!!!

Info compiled from R-F members and the Expo-Forum

RCD Installation manual for reference and part numbers
http://download361.mediafire.com/mjb...all+Manual.pdf

Specs:

RCD Bilstein 5100 c/o shocks
Extd: 19.125"
Col: 14.625"
Dia: 2.0"
Spring Rate: 600 lbs
Inside Dia: 2.5"
Spring Length: 12"

The 2.0x6.5 shock from Fox:
Shock Travel: 6.50"
Extended Length: 19.35"
Collasped Length: 12.85"
Shaft size is: 5/8"
Fox Part #: 980-99-001A

The 2.0x6.5 shock w/res from fox
Shock Travel: 6.50"
Extended Length: 19.35"
Collasped Length: 12.85"
Shaft size is: 5/8"
Reservoir Type: Remote Res.
Reservoir shocks can be run at Any Angle.
Fox Part #: 980-99-006-A

The 2.0x8.5 shock from Fox:

Shock Travel: 8.50"
Extended Length: 23.35"
Collasped Length: 14.85"
Shaft size is: 5/8"
Fox Part #: 980-99-002A

The 2.0x8.5 shock w/res from Fox:
Shock Travel: 8.50"
Extended Length: 23.35"
Collasped Length: 14.85"
Shaft size is: 5/8"
Fox Part #: 980-99-003A

Then you've gotta figure in a coil size and spring compression rate.

Note: He is talking about a superlift 4" lift shock....

This would have held in the spring and have stopped the spring from moving around as well as limiting the down travel, which is more important if you decide to go with 6.5" shock. Here you never want the spring to go against the shock vavling at the shocks full extended length. I had also measured that I needed some 24" of extended travel length (I had to take the superlift shock off to measure this and let the LCA down as far as it would go, thats how I got the 24"). My research has checked out, meaning that the 8.5" should work.

----This research did pay off!!!! After install, the 8.5" shock works. When reconnecting the upperball joint to the spindle (knuckle) there is no play in the spring. Just pre-load the spring and your ready to go.
With reguards to the RCD kit going to an 8.5"

FWIW....One of the guys on explorerforums.com with a SportTrac said he had excellent results with the 6.5" 2.0with 800lb hypertech coils.

I've gotta get my suspension taken care of....like yesterday.

So I'm thinking 6.5" Fox 2.0's with the resevoir, 750lb 12" hypercoils for the pass side and 800lb 12" hypercoils for the dr side to take care of the front. Maybe jump the Nitrogen up to 250 psi.
My big bad tube bumper is going back on so I have to account for that and all the other junk on my truck. After hours and hours of reading I think it's a good combo for my truck.
Then once I get all that done I'll have to measure up for limit straps.

Anyone have the specs on the 5100's for the rear that came with the RCD? I"ve got the stock 4wd pack, RCD AAL, and the ginormous RCD shackle. Both of my rear shocks are junk/blown. Should I just go with the ones from RCD or is there a better alternative?

That's helpful man! Thanks!!!

They're bad really?! I love mine! They do the trick with ease! I would say get another set of the 5100's... They may have upgraded the technology since you first got yours, thus making them a better shock (Hope that makes sense and doesn't make me sound dumb haha)

I didn't even think about the ranger lean when I thought about spring rates... I was gonna order the springs this weekend actually... 2-750lb hypercoils... But after reading what you said, maybe I should run a 800lb on the drivers side and a 750lb on the passenger side? I'll probably be cranking them almost all the way down on the bilstein coil-over too...

I'd look into a rebuildable shock (I'm still thinking 7100 bilsteins with res). I think there's a fox and racerunner option for the rear as well.

Thos 5100's have gone through ALOT of abuse on the rears. They're almost 4 years old too. One was leaking ever so slightly and the other one just flat out lost all oil.

I was driving on a really bumpy rural road on a rainy day and the rear end wanted to kick out like no other haha. It sucked!

The 7100's are what I was actually leaning towards. I just didn't know if they could be mounted inverted or whatever. I see all the work rwenzing had to do to mount his res's and wonder if it's even worth the effort. Especially considering what I said about the age and abuse taken by the 5100's.

Anywho, anyone got the specs on the 5100 that came with the RCD kit?

all due respect to Bob and his mountain of knowledge...

There has got to be an easier way to get the 7100s in there. Get them dialed in and combined with the deavers I think it'd be a sweet ride on-/off-road.

I can live without deavers. Although I do wanna get a local spring shop to make me up a custom pack to eliminate the stock blocks and step down to a smaller shackle.

Yeah the 7100's thing is crazy how Bob had to configure them. IIRC, he removed the bed and something about modifying the spare tire carrier(which is useless on my truck). lol
