Rear end alignment

I'm going to apologize in advance, this has probably has been answered a lot....I'm normally a car guy, well I got my first truck and it's a 2000 XLT 3.0 flex fuel. And I noticed it was way off on the rear end, I measured from center hub to center hub on the passenger side an was almost 4inches shorter than the drivers side. So I jacked the frame up to unload the suspension and loosened all the u bolts and let the whole housing come down and shifted it and got it centered on the pins and had my step dad help hold it in place while I slowly tightened all 8 bolts down evenly to bring it back up and it is dead on the center pins. He helped check the measurements again and now we only have about a 2-2.5inch difference from one side to the other. Is that just how it's going to be or do I need to keep looking into why it won't even out.

If we need more information let me know, I just knew the first post would be long winded, thanks.
