Replacement Shock Question
My front driver shock is busted, the top part popped out from the bottom (where the rubber boot is) probably from over extending (no sway bar). And it seems it only had 1/2" before it popped.
So now I'm looking for new front shocks, but was wondering if I can get longer ones so I have a bit more room to play. Or do I HAVE to get the stock ones and put limiting straps or my sway bar back in? Any info is appreciated |
If you put in longer shocks you may run into issues with the shock limiting your up travel instead of the down travel. Take alot of measurements and see if a shock in the stock location can provide the travel you need, if not look into limiting the travel, or changing the shock mounts.

There aren't too many options for longer front shocks besides Rancho RS5374. They're supposed to be for trucks with cranked bars/lift keys. I'd just stick with the stock shocks and throw some limiting straps on if you think that's what caused the breakage. Shocks too long will allow your lower c/a to drop too far and cause your CV joints to bind.

Well I have prekeys and maxxed bars. I will be getting limiting straps so longer shocks will be okay, I just don't want it to pop out again before I get straps.
