Ok so I just got the Rancho rs9000x shocks and went to install them and cant seem to figure out if im doing something stupid,

Most shocks have the strap to cut to uncompress them or turn it to unlock it. well theese dont have anything that I can tell also if i uncompress them all the way and push in they just stay, is this how they are supposed to be since they are adjustable or what?

thanks for any help in advance

Dave

Gas pressurized shocks need the binding cord. Hydraulic shocks usually do not. They simply regulate the back-and-forth flow of fluid, but don't have pre-charged gas pressure in a bladder or anything.

No hurry on the pump, Dave, I'm fine.

If all the shocks are like that, then it's probably that the 9000's are an all-hydraulic design. If not, then you have a bad shock. I guess you checked more than one?

I think the packing slip is what they're looking for because when I spoke with Rancho they said that it must show the part numbers they shipped. The receipt I printed online only showed rs9000x.

I put the damned shocks on today and broke both of the stock front shocks trying to get the nut off the top. The damned shaft snapped right off. There were no incidents in the rear except that I didn't look in the box for red boots for the rear shocks and put the black ones on. I'll take them off and put the red boots on when the remote arrives.

Just out of curiosity, what do you have yours set to?? I havn't taken mine out for a drive yet but I think they're at 9 up front and 5 in the rear and it's raining so I'm not changing them right now.

Gen-Edge Members...

That breakage problem is a classic on Rangers, Tom. Not unusual in the least. I was okay only because my truck is newer and had less time to seize.

I wasn't too worried about it but just thought it was wierd that the old ones broke. I suppose I could have used some WD40 on the nuts...

As for the shocks, with them set at 9 up front and 5 in the rear, they seem way too stiff. Feels like a go-kart and with this rain it's tough keeping the rear tires planted. Once it stops raining, I'll loosen them a bit.
