bad wheel hop... suggestions for improvement?

when driving my truck, especially at higher street speeds, sometimes when i hit a big enough bump (bumps only, not dips) my rear tires seem to jolt up hard enough to actually leave the ground for a very brief period of time, and my rear end will usually slide one way or the other a few inches depending on the turn im taking. I guess this is wheel hop;

----------------
Definition: An undesirable suspension characteristic in which a wheel (or several) moves up and down so violently that it actually leaves the ground. Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control.
----------------

what can I do to reduce or eliminate this situation? I just picked up a rear sway bar from TheForce02 last night (thanks jacob!) and i'll be installing them this weekend, but is there anything else I can do to help? would traction bars help? I'm running stock rear leaf springs and edelbrock ias monotube shocks.

Your axle takes the small housing 98+ Duff bars.

My 2WD Rangers were really bad for jumping sideways but my LII is not. It has the factory Bilsteins, Duff bars, factory front sway bar and Edge rear sway bar. I think that the Bilsteins and its heavier weight are the biggest reasons why it is more stable.

would it be bad to run different shocks? ie; edelbrocks in front and bilsteins in rear?

I think it would be better than changing lanes when you hit a bump.

Those Edelbrocks wouldn't happen to have adjustable damping, would they? Backing off on the rebound damping might help that problem.

Traction bars are not going to fix the hopping problem..It's because the truck is sooo light in the rear...The stiffer shocks are not helping either...I run Bilstiens...After I did my stereo and added a small toolbox(weight) the hop went away...

my truck does the same thing, feels like the rear end is going to kick loose. I thought it was becasue if the 31's, but now that i have my hitch on the rear (which is 40 extra lbs) its not so bad anymore

your edlebrocks should be fine....just get the duff bars and youll be set. If you really want to overkill it throw on a rear sway bar too. I have ZERO axle wrap/wheel hop and i have both sways and duff trac bars. It could be the extra weight of the 18" chrome rims thats making the hop bad.
