tapered bearing

The wheel bearings on my 2wd ranger seem to fail pretty fast and I can't understand why. I had them replaced two years ago at a garage I trust and after a year one failed and now the other just did. I decided to replace them myself this time to save money and it wasn't too hard. Is it mainly water contaminating the bearings causing the damage from looks of it? I noticed the spindle has wear mark on it like the inner bearing was spinning on it which i don't get, I thought they stay stationary on the spindle and the rollers rotate around it?
Here is the spindle https://ibb.co/gvoQdz
and the outer bearing with the flecks of metal and brown sludge the grease turned into https://ibb.co/hqaSrK
races were really pitted https://ibb.co/gGdQdz
