okay so i took a look at my torsion bars on my truck today cause well i was going to crank them.. i drive an 03 FX4 II so i have #1 bars.

My problem is i notice that on that bolt there was only like an inch of it left to turn..


have they already been cranked???

 

an inch! wow, youve got plenty of crankage left in those babys! you will probably get at least 2 inches up front

 

so crank the bolt till its flush with the housing???

 

YOu bought the truck used right? They were probably cranked by the previous owner.

 

well they are saying i have more room to crank ill take a picture hehehe

 

make sure you lift it with a jack in the front before you crank them. it's so much easier... just to remind you if you already knew...

Yes you can, if they were cranked before it had to be a very small amount. You have tons to go still.
How do your lowers and CV's look?

 

I think my friend went under and cranked mine with a impact until the bottomed out. LOL. That's probably why my truck rides like crap.

well i left em an 1/8th of an inch out. i am aligning tomorrow and well yeah its grand

 

i like the rough ride and my tires are wearing near perfectly.

driver side has less to crank than passenger?/ why?

 

there all like that but my theory is due to ford the gas tank and driver so there making up the diffrence there

 

I had to crank the pass side 3 more full turns, and it's still 1/8" lower than driver side at a flat alignment rack. Perfect IMO since the driver side is the heavy side.
I would guess your pass side is higher if you maxed them both out

Well, if you did anything with the t-bar adjuster bolts, its time for an alignment. Im sure the truck drives straight, but you dont want to risk wearing out tires.

Also make sure that the right bolt is not screwed in as much as the left. The batery, gas tank, driver are all on the left side, so after a while Rangers like to lean to the left. If you keep the right bolt about 4 or 5 threads looser, it will keep your truck level

 

i am going to say that the driver is almost in and the passenger is like an 1/8th or more farther out than the driver side..

and im gonna align even though if my tires wear out fast i get FREE ones if they die before 55k.. so i say run without align.. wear out tires fast and get a free new set of BFG T/A's before snow starts to stick... i love discount tire hehe.

 

left side is always cranked more to keep the truck level. 'Ranger Lean' is what it's called. The left will be maxed and the right will be about 75% towards max. Gas tank, driver, battery all lead to the 'ranger lean'....all the weight on the left side causes it to sag and lean. that's what the left bolt is already cranked more than the right.

Tires won't wear that bad at all. I ran mine maxed with new tires for a year and sold the tires at 85% tread after about 15k....even wear too across the tread.

 

Did you check the fine print? Most of the time tire places won't replace tires under warranty if the tires were prematurely worn due to out of spec alignment (among many other things considered "abuse"). It's pretty easy to tell if the tire got worn out due to poor alignment.

 

hi, i am confused more now... ahhh..

stock FX4 - I have- wanted front a little higher - i prefer an even height
right now my truck sits lower in the front..

thought about a 3" body lift.. / or crank the torsion and call it a day..

one more thing - how does the bumpers look with the lift ??
